A “Monsoon” hits Dover Downs on Monday

Dover, DE — Monsoon Hall made his return to the winner’s circle for the first time in more than two months, winning the $27,500 Preferred Handicap Pace over an off track in 1:551 on Monday, January 26 at Dover Downs. The Devil Himself won a tight photo in 1:554 to win the $25,000 Delaware Special. A track one-program record of 13 claims were made during the card.

Monsoon Hall holds off Beecher Park in Monday’s feature.

Ricky Still took Doc & Me Inc.’s Monsoon Hall to the outside at the half and raced front pacing Soho (Kevin Sizer) head-to-head until turning for home when the Cambest gelding left his rival and then outlasted fast finishing Beecher Park (Mark A. King) and Cambest Prince (Greg Grismore) at the wire to win by a neck. Shark Sation was scratched, limiting the starting field to five. Monsoon Hall has now won $786,261 in his career.

The Devil Himself has found a home in the $25,000 Delaware Special. After a second last week, Brad Hanners gave the seven-year-old Devil’s Adversary gelding an overland journey and he thrived, overtaking pacesetting Getaway Hall (Kevin Sizer) after the three-quarters and then he held off the hard charging Kilowatt (Ricky Still) by a head in 1:554. Future Treasure (Art Stafford, Jr.) was a length back in third.

The Devil Himself edged out Kilowatt in the Delaware Special.

The Devil Himself was recently claimed by Todd Wise for $40,000 and since has two wins, a second and a third under the conditioning of Steve LeBlanc.

Vic Kirby drove Ron MacAthur’s Cocky Cam Shark into the early lead and never relinquished en route to a 1:55 mile to win a $17,500 Winners Over Pace. Muhammad Ali N (Ricky Still) was next with Magic Who (Ross Wolfenden) taking third.

Woody Long and Bill Mears’ Ace Of Diamonds made it two straight when Kevin Sizer steered the Jate Lobell five-year-old to a 1:544 win to take a $15,500 Delaware Winners Over Pace. Race favorite Speakeasy (Jim Morand) finished second) with Moscow N (Ricky Still) third.

Falcon’s Pharoah made his last start for Woody Long and trainer Bobby Glassmeyer before being claimed a winning one as Tim Curtin drove the Falcons Future gelding to a 1:55 victory in a $30,000 claiming pace. No Option (Brad Hanners), the favorite, finished second with Shadow Maker A (Ross Wolfenden) the third horse.

Long and Glassmeyer enjoyed a big day when Moon Sign won another $30,000 claiming pace in 1:554 with Kevin Sizer in the bike. Space Racer (Ricky Still) and Bonn Rocket N (George Dennis) were second and third respectively.

A third $30,000 claimer went to Todd Adams, Jonas White and Chad Tate’s Dropdeadgoreous A, driven by Brad Hanners, with a 1:562 score. West Point (Jim Morand) was a half length back with Elijay Ed (Tim Curtin) the third place horse.

Cantwell Bridge Stable claimed Lone Roan Ranger for $25,000 last week and then lost him for the same price after Brad Hanners drove the seven-year-old Abercrombie gelding to victory in 1:561. Kokacabana (Ross Wolfenden) was second with Silent Dex (Art Stafford, Jr.) next.
