Adioo Volo renamed to honor Quinton Patterson

by Anne Doolin, for the Meadows

Meadow Lands, PA — The Adioo Volo, the filly companion stake to the Adios, will now also carry the name of the late Quinton Patterson. The $160,000 stake, for 3-year-old pacing fillies, will go in four divisions on Saturday’s afternoon card at The Meadows. Post time for the first of the double-header cards is 12:00 noon.

Patterson, the beloved Grandstand Maintenance Manager at The Meadows, had been a vital part of the track since its birth in 1961 and was a part of the team that helped build it with founder Delvin Miller. He passed away in December at the remarkably young age of 83, and while still a full-time employee.

Well-known by fellow employees, horsemen and patrons alike, Patterson is remembered for his friendly demeanor, warm handshake, and jaunty whistle. During Adios Week, he would be sporting something purple, and have even more spring in his step than usual.

“Quinton embodied everything that is good about The Meadows,” said John Marshall, general manager of The Meadows Racing. “He never met a stranger, and he always wanted this facility to put its best foot forward. It was like he was inviting you into his home, which in fact, he felt it was.

“It’s truly fitting that we honor and remember him with the filly companion race to the Adios, which honors his friend Delvin Miller,” Marshall said. “The two of them loved nothing more than seeing top horses race in those two races, and the excitement during the week leading up to it.”

Adioo Volo is the dam of the great Adios himself, and the 3-year-old filly pace, contested on the same card as the Coors Delvin Miller Adios, will from now on be known as the Quinton Patterson Adioo Volo.
