Arizona Liar takes Dover feature in 1:50.2

by Marv Bachrad, Dover Downs Publicity Director

Dover, DE — A balmy Monday late afternoon and a slight temperature elevation was the backdrop for a pacing caravan of speed on President’s day, Monday, Feb. 21. Arizona Liar cut out the fastest mile in 1:50.2 to win the $32,000 Preferred Handicap pace. Trainer Chuck Crissman also made the winner’s circle in the $30,000 Delaware Special via a 1:52.1 Time Flies N win.

Arizona Liar cut out all the fractions in a 1:50.2 performance in the feature race Monday at Dover Downs.

Sean Bier left quickly from post 1 and never looked back as Arizona Liar cut out all the fractions in a 1:50.2 performance in the feature race. Cool Flying Fun, driven by Brian Sears, finished second with Bay Sign and Jon Roberts edging last week’s winner Bobnoxious, who was locked inside until the three-quarters and then came storming down the lane with Tim Curtin on the far outside.

It was the first win of the season for Arizona Liar, a son of Illinois-stallion Arizona Jack, who was obtained by Rojan Stables and Doc &Me Inc. at the beginning of the New Year. He had finished a close second and third twice each in his previous five starts.

In the $30,000 Delaware Special, Brian Sear moved Time Flies N, the only mare in the lineup, into the lead on the final turn and held off a fast finish by race favorite Clinton Debriefed (Travis Bowman) in a 1:52.1 contest. Dream Wave (Eddie Davis) took show honors. Wayne Pryor and Wendy Crissman own the six-year-old In The Pocket mare who just returned from racing at the Meadowlands. The win was the second of three on the card for trainer Crissman.

A late charge from Racsan John was good enough for a nose victory in 1:51.1 to take the $25,000 Open Handicap. Vic Kirby moved the fast gelded son of Wynfield Mark to the far outside and got up in the final stride for a career fastest win for owners Don Hawk, John Hynansky and trainer Dan Warrington. Hosit The Colors (Sean Bier) cut out the fractions and finished second. Kilkerran Scot (Brian Sears) was next.

Kevin Sizer took Stagedoor Left right to the lead and never relinquished it on the way to a 1:52.2 conquest in a $17,000 Delaware pace giving owners Woody Long and trainer Bobby Glassmeyer a double. The win was the third straight and fastest lifetime for the Jenna’s Beach Boy gelding. Bramalea Road (George Dennis) was game racing outside for three-quarters of a mile. Finishing third, the Abercrombie gelding was placed second in front of Fifteenletters A (Brian Sears).

Green Stable and driver Jim Morand’s Fox Valley Michael was strong in the stretch scoring a 1:53.1 triumph in a $16,500 Delaware pace. Irish Shade (Ross Wolfenden) took second. Build A Fire (Mike Cole) was along in time for third.

Iwannabesedated turned in a lifetime best 1:51.3, a fifth of a second off the track record for a four-year-old, as Brad Hanners guided the Real Artist gelding to an off-the-pace victory in a $13,700 Delaware pace. Skedaddle Hanover (Eddie Davis), who had taken the lead at the three-quarters had to settle for second. My Cap N (Brian Sears), the early leader, held on for third.

Johnny Waite’s On The Tee scored a front-end 1:55.1 victory in a $30,000 Claiming Allowance. Eddie Davis drove the winner holding off a passing lane challenge from Macho Uno (Herve Filion) by a head. Knucklehead (Steve Warrington) was the third place finisher.

Art Brewer’s Sporty Nate notched his third win in a row in $30,000 claimers as Mike Cole put the Sportsmaster gelding on the front en route to a 1:53.1 verdict. Ruthless Victory N (Brad Hanners) and Happy Holmes N (David Miller) finished second and third respectively.

Ring Of Light, claimed last week by Brent Outten and Virginia Fisher, came from fourth on the final turn to win another $30,000 claimer, giving driver Jim Morand and trainer Josh Green doubles. Tendulkar N (Brian Sears) was the place horse with Distant Game (Mike Cole), the early leader finishing third.

The seven-race win streak by Crisp Sahbra came to a close in a $20,000 claimer when Cobbler Hanover, Brian Sears third winner of the night, scored a 1:54.1 victory.

Cams Little Imp N, Clock Watcher to head $25,000 Mares Open

Cams Little Imp N and Clock Watcher, who each won impressively last week, will meet in a $25,000 Mares Open Handicap pace on Tuesday at Dover Downs. Post time will be at 4:30 p.m. (EST).

Cams Little Imp N, owned by Les Walls and Jack Upchurch, took no prisoners last week when driver Ross Wolfenden left quickly with her, and they never looked back en route to a 1:53 win, her second of the tear. Meanwhile, in near similar style, driver Brad Hanners directed Jeff Franklin’s Clock Watcher to the lead after the quarter pole, and led the rest of the way and won a winners-over pace.

Not to be overlooked is Wendy Crissman and 49 Racing Stables’ steady Crossfire N, to be reined by Sean Bier; Ann Other Porsche, owned by Jonas White and Harness the Power, who will have Steve Warrington in the sulky; Clair Corle and trainer-driver Roger Hammer’s My Gal Phyl; and Seasin, who will be making her first start in Open competition, and who is owned, trained, and will be driven by Roger Plante, and who will be leaving from the rail.

The supporting feature on the card will be a $12,500 mares pace. Since being claimed, Owen Franklin’s Extemporaneous (Eddie Davis, Jr.) has scored consecutive wins, each by a head, in her two starts. Noni N (Dylan Davis), owned by Levine, Casalino, and Golden Goose Enterprises, won her last start decisively. Roses Best, owned, trained, and to be driven by Toby Lynch, put in her best effort of the year last Thursday when she cut the mile — only to lose in the final strides of a 1:522 mile. Debbie Avery’s Fake The Moment N (Jim Morand) will be one to watch; the recent New Zealand import made her first U.S. start last week, closed well, and finished third.

The rest of the lineup consists of David Clark and trainer Jeff Clark’s Bluebird Wanda (Hal Belote), who will start from the rail; Rodney Long’s Kayla Marie N (Vic Kirby); Greg Gehman’s touted newcomer Shes A Blast (Frank Milby); RN Artist, owned, and trained by Roger Hammer; and Jeff Franklin and Todd Wise’s Not Aday Goes By (Brad Hanners).

A field of nine will compete in a $10,500 distaff pace. Rodney Mitchell’s Canaco Lily (Eddie Davis) will leave from the rail, and Tentuwin Bluegrass (Sean Bier), owned by Robert Figlozzi, D.R. Oliver, and Wendy Crissman, and Roberts, Crammer, Rosenstock, and trainer-driver Robert Reeser’s Love Lace Mindale will start alongside the other two.

In an $11,500 feature trot, Tom Crouch’s Prank Player (Tim Curtin) appears the sharpest in a nine-horse field, and in a $10,000 Delaware claiming race, Johnny Waite’s Allraessignofglory (Eddie Davis) will put a four-race win streak on the line.

Dover Downs has added a Pick 4 to its wagering format, and it will be featured on the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh races each day, and a fifth Superfecta has been added to the track’s daily, six-day-a-week, 15 race schedule. Superfectas will be offered on the third, fifth, ninth, 13th, and 15th races. Simulcasting from major harness and Thoroughbred tracks is featured daily, from noon until midnight (EST).

Again this year, Dover Downs will race on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 5:30 p.m., and on Monday through Thursday, post time will be at 4:30 p.m. There is no charge for parking and admission. Reservations are suggested for the Winner’s Circle Restaurant. Call (302) 674-4600.
