Campbellville, ON — Ashtreos used a strong off-the-pace rally to upset in Monday’s single C$20,000 division in the second leg of the Ontario Sired Spring Series for 3-year-old fillies at Mohawk Racetrack.

It was the second drive back for Mario Baillargeon who was returning to action after breaking his leg in a serious accident earlier this Spring at Woodbine.

Baillargeon was able to stalk the pace from fourth position throughout much of the mile and when the pacesetting Warrawee Koine gave way in the late stages, he was able to urge his filly past rivals for the 1:53.1 victory. Mylittlerebel closed from far back to be second with Euphoria Seelster rounding out the top three. Race favorite Brooklyns Best, who was an impressive winner last week in round one, made a miscue at the start and finished last in the field of nine.

The winner returned $64.40 on the nose.

The win was the second in six starts this season for the daughter of Astreos-Trust Me Ashley who is trained by Ben Baillargeon for the Millar Farms of Newmarket, Ontario.

The C$50,000 Ontario Sired Spring Series Final will go postward next Monday night (May 11) from Mohawk.
