Austin sends out favorites in Summertime Series

Campbellville, ON — Foolish Justice stepped up to stakes company in last week’s Summertime Pacing Series opener and was a convincing winner. So it’s little wonder that the Mark Austin-trained colt has been rated at 6-5 going into the series’ second leg this Friday, July 3, at Mohawk.

Foolish Justice is favored in his second leg split of the Summertime Pacing Series on Friday at Mohawk.

Last week’s trip for Foolish Justice was a come-from-behind effort from the six hole, but this time around the son of I Am A Fool has drawn post position one, which may mean a different sort of journey to be orchestrated by Randy Waples.

While Foolish Justice is the overwhelming morning line favorite in the second of the two Summertime splits scheduled for Friday night (race nine, post time 10:10 p.m.), Austin’s Manhattan Bluechip, who will also be piloted by Waples, is the 5-2 first choice in the other division (race six, post time 9:10 p.m.).

After pacing home third in the Burlington Stakes on June 13, Manhattan Bluechip made a bid for the North America Cup, but a 10th place finish in the June 20 elims left him out of the lucrative final. He bounced back by grabbing a check for third in last week’s Summertime opener, but this week he will have to get past division winner Electric Energy, who will be leaving from post four with Mark MacDonald in the bike.

Catch some Summertime sizzle this Friday, and then be sure to return for the C$58,000 (est.) final of the Summertime Series, which is slated for Saturday, July 11, at Mohawk.
