• World champion Sheer Desire, 12, dies

    On Saturday (Nov. 10) world champion Sheer Desire, 12, was euthanized after suffering from a severe infection. The Kentucky-bred son of Real Desire-Carolache co-held the world record time of 1:49.3 for 2-year-old pacers on a mile track with two-time Dan Patch and Nova Award winner Somebeachsomewhere until Sportswriter paced in 1:49.2 in the 2009 edition of the Metro Pace.
  • Caviart Ally rolls in Big M feature

    The heavy rain and sloppy conditions didn’t figure to deter Caviart Ally in the Friday night (Nov. 9) feature at the Meadowlands, the $20,000 Preferred Handicap for pacing fillies and mares, as the 4-year-old daughter of Bettor’s Delight-Allamerican Cool stomped on an abbreviated field, besting four foes in 1:50.2.
  • Marohn wins second leg of GSY Series

    As the old adage goes, “Better late than never." That is how this amateur race played out and it had plenty of action before and during the race, as well as at the finish. Nine trotters went to post for the second leg of the GSY Fall Club Series Friday night (Nov. 9) and as the gate sprung into action for the first time, two horses went off stride and a rare recall took place.
  • Dayton welcomes new Open winners and Budweiser Clydesdales

    There were new subjects in the winner’s circle photos following the co-featured $18,000 Open Trot and the $17,500 Open Mares Pace on Friday (Nov. 9) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway. Winning is nothing new for Party At The Banks, the top trot winner, as she has steadily worked her way up the condition ranks in Ohio over the last three months. Since mid-August the 4-year-old Ohio-sired mare has won seven out of eight races, including her last five in a row. This 1:55.2 score on a frigid southwest Ohio night was the first in Open company for Party At The Banks.
  • Clear Idea wins at Saratoga

    Canadian invader Blake Macintosh brought two of his trainees south to Saratoga Casino Hotel to compete on Friday night (Nov. 9). The veteran conditioner came to the Spa with 4-year-old pacer Clear Idea (American Ideal) and 4-year-old trotter Just For You (Yankee Glide).
  • Bioness remains perfect at Batavia Downs

    When French-bred trotter Bioness last competed at Batavia Downs he won the $15,000 Schroeder Invitational trot in October. On Friday (Nov. 9) he stayed undefeated at the Genessee County oval by taking the $11,500 Open Handicap trotting feature under a slick drive by his young reinsman, Hunter Oakes, over a very sloppy track.
