Badlands Iron Lady wins Filly and Mare Open at Dover

DOVER, De.- Badlands Iron Lady, the only filly facing a field of seasoned distaff pacers, won the $24,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap pace on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at Dover Downs. Ron Pierce drove five winners and Tim Tetrick had a triple.

In the feature, Ron Pierce drove the three-year-old daughter of Badlands Hanover to her second straight victory in the week’s top distaff event recording a 1:51.3 victory on a chilly night. Pierce took Badlands Iron Lady into the lead in front of the grandstand and poured it on the rest of the way to best Poppy Lustre N with Tim Tetrick and initial leader Yada Yada Yada A, driven by Ross Wolfenden.

Owned by Only Money Inc. of Hartly, Del, Badlands Iron Lady is trained by George Teague. She has now won $109,551 this season and $114,701 in her 26-race career.

In the $21,000 Filly and Mare Jr. Open, Roger Plante took the passing lane to drive 10-1 shot Bay Express N, owned by Ed Maas and Howard Paisley, to a 1:53.4 victory. Fritzie Bunnie, teamed with Mike Cole, led until the final steps and finished second while Ain’t Goin Back and Ben Stafford Jr. closed for third.
