Bama Bound looks to overcome outside post

by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Bama Bound, up on the money in last week’s Preferred Handicap Trot, leaves from the outside post position in Friday the 13th’s $15,000 Open Handicap Trot at Yonkers Raceway.

Post time for the nine race card is 7:40 p.m., with the week’s featured trot going as the eighth race.

Bama Bound (Stephane Bouchard, post eight) has two wins and four seconds in his last seven tries. The six-year-old son of Donerail, owned by Pound Stable and trained by Jean-Claude Jobidon, eyes his sixth victory of the season. He enters with career earnings in excess of $143,000.

TW Rambo (Mike Forte, post seven) chased home the AWOL Approved Action in last week’s Open Handicap. The eight-year-old Such Hustle gelding, taken out of the claiming ranks by Kevin Quinn in late July, has hit the board in his last seven efforts (five wins, one second, one third).

The Legend (Greg Merton, post six), having made money in his last seven tries, can go over the half-million dollar career cash plateau with a win or a second Friday night. The 11-year-old Sirot Lauxmont gelding, owned by Marcos Ameralis and trained by Carl Tirella, has 53 victories (seven this season) from his 302 career starts.

Zorgwijk Bedeviled (Driver TBA, post five) steps up from the high conditioned ranks in search of a fifth consecutive in the money effort. The six-year-old Valleymeister gelding makes his first Open Handicap try since late May, when he was fourth (to Blastaway Sahbra).

At A Boy Eric (Mark Beckwith, post one) and Armbro Sensible (Lou Paulucci, post two) were second and third, respectively, to Bama Bound a week ago, while Heirs Above (Marcus Johansson, post four) wound up third (behind Approved Action and TW Rambo) in last week’s trotting feature.

Bodacious Storm (Jim Marohn, post three) moves up the ladder after what would be a fifth board finish in the last half dozen tries.
