Bar None & Southwind Utica win Harriman divisions

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – June 30, 2004 – Bar None and Southwind Utica turned in winning performances in their respective division of the EH Harriman Challenge Cup for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands.

Bar None took the first division of the EH Harriman in 1:58.4.

In the first $61,425 division, the third race, Bar None [$13.60, $7.00, $5.20] took the lead on the turn for home and held on for a neck victory over Celebrity Master [$4.80, $3.40] in 1:58.4.

Keaton Zet [$11.00] was third by two and a quarter lengths.

Bar None, driven by Cat Manzi and trained by John Brennan, was making his pari-mutuel debut. The son of Malabar Man is owned by John Brennan of Little Ferry, New Jersey; John Nordstrom of Lloyd Harbor, New York and John Taddeo of Bay Shore, New York, the same team that campaigned 2003 Hambletonian runner-up Sugar Trader.

Southwind Utica won the second division of the EH Harriman Challenge Cup for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings in 1:59.2.

In the $62,075 second division, the fifth race, Southwind Utica [$7.60, $3.00, $2.60] trotted to victory in 1:59.2. The Muscles Yankee colt, driven by David Miller, won by a length over Lindy Five Hundred [$2.20, $2.20], who was coupled in the wagering with the third-place horse, Armbro Copenhagen.

Trained by Doug Snyder, Southwind Utica now has two wins in three starts for the partnership of Thomas King III of Valencia, Pennsylvania; Leo Stepanian of Butler, Pennsylvania; D. Michael Hartley of Butler, Pennsylvania and Brian Shoplik of Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
