Bee A Magician cruises to OSS record

by Sandra Snyder, for the Ontario Sire Stakes

Campbellville, ON — The chill in the air at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday evening did nothing to dampen the sizzle of Bee A Magician’s sophomore season as the 3-year-old trotting filly extended her win streak to 13 in an Ontario Sires Stakes record 1:52.1.

The clocking scraped one-fifth of a second off Bee A Magician’s own record, set in the June 24 Gold Series season opener at Mohawk. Undefeated since last fall, Bee A Magician took command of Friday’s Gold leg heading for the halfway marker and cruised across the finish 3-3/4 lengths ahead of Charmed Life and Angies Lucky Star. Oakville resident Rick Zeron piloted Bee A Magician to the win.

Richard “Nifty” Norman trains the winner of C$1,776,617 for Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, Herb Liverman of Miami Beach, FL and David McDuffee of Delray Beach, FL. The Kadabra daughter’s next start will come in the Sept. 28 Super Final, where she will be joined by the other nine leading point earners from the Gold Series regular season.

Princess Lilly captured the other sophomore trotting filly division on Friday, battling up the outside to a three-quarter length win in a personal best 1:54.2. Last year’s Grassroots Champion, Princess Lilly bested Bee A Magician’s stablemate Choir Robe and Samira Hanover.

Milton resident Mario Baillargeon engineered the Muscle Mass daughter’s second sophomore victory for his brother, trainer Benoit Baillargeon of Rockwood, and owner Les Ecuries Piramidan of Gatineau, QC.

Also featured on Mohawk’s Friday evening program were two Gold Series divisions for the 2-year-old pacing fillies. Heavy favorites Sudoku and Doug McNair captured the first split with a 1:53.4 personal best. The duo cruised home two lengths ahead of Regil Meg and Performing Art.

Tony O’Sullivan of Cambridge trains Badlands Hanover- Mind Boggling daughter Sudoku for owners Let It Ride Stables Inc., Robert Copper Stables LLC and Dana Parham of Boca Raton, FL and Howard Taylor of Philadelphia, PA.

Mohawk fans were treated to a fierce stretch battle in the other freshman pacing filly division, with Yoselin Seelster prevailing by a neck over Lady Jake and Porsche Seelster in 1:54.2. The win was Yoselin Seelster’s second of the season and her first in Ontario Sires Stakes action. Ben Wallace trains the Shadow Play-Yankee Athena daughter for Bradley Grant of Milton and Rick Zeron engineered the win.

The 2-year-old pacing fillies will wrap up their regular season at Grand River Raceway on Sept. 20.
