Belovedangel passed odds-on favorite Cabrini Hanover in the stretch to claim a 1:52.4 victory in the first of two Matron Stakes elims for 3-year-old filly pacers.

Belovedangel, overlooked at 5-1, continued her late Fall success story chasing odds-on favorite Cabrini Hanover and Brian Sears for most of the mile and then Ron Pierce took the Canadianowned daughter of Artsplace to the outside at the top of the lane and blew past for a 1:52.4 victory in the first of two elims. Cabrini Hanover hung on to finish second in front of West End, with George Brennan in the bike. Digga Digga, driven by Pat Berry, made next week’s final by finishing fourth.

John Fielding and Robert McIntosh Stables, of Ontario, and Irving Liverman of Quebec, own Belovedangel. Most recently, she won the $130,500 Courageous Lady at Northfield Park in October, finished second in the Cinderella at Maywood Park, and then came from off-the-pace to take the $500,000 Breeders Crown in her last start for Hall of Fame trainer Bob McIntosh.
Born Storyteller, a Badlands Hanover filly and no stranger to Dover Downs fans, pulled a stunning 20-1 upset in the second $30,562 elim. The Kelvin Harrison conditioned filly enjoyed a perfect 2-hole trip behind Ron Pierce-driven Maytime Hall and after turning for home blasted along the passing lane to storm to a 1:53.3 victory with Jonathan Roberts at the controls for owner Ron Mario of Potomac, Md. Maytime Hall held on for second. Fox Valley Zena, with Andy Miller, finished third but was placed fourth for interference against Modern Medicine, piloted by Brian Sears.
Modern Medicine was placed third with Fox Valley Zena fourth, all making next Tuesday’s $183,375 Matron Final.

In the $24,000 Mares Open Pace, Tony Morgan moved Crystal Ball Stable’s Donna’s Girl three wide at the threequarters to pass battling leaders Ann Other Porsche (Brian Sears) and Tawny (Brad Hanners). Donna’s Girl, a four-year-old daughter of Village Jove, then opened up a 2-length lead turning for home but needed all of the :28.3 final quarter to hold off Pacific Illusion (Brandon Givens) and Shake Away (Jim King) in the stretch.

The victory was the first start at the track for the Steve LeBlanc trained Donna’s Girl, after racing primarily at Pocono Downs and in New York State during the summer.
The Vic Kirby – Bob Reeser combination has been working well, especially for Positivly Electric, owned by Reeser and Stan Rosenstock. The four-year-old Electric Yankee mare won for the third straight time and fifth in six races turning in a 1:54.1 victory in a $16,500 Filly and Mare pace. SF Misty (Tim Curtin) closed with a rush to finish second. River Valley Belle (Ross Wolfenden) was third.
Tony Morgan drove Sam Jacobs, Ron Reed and Crissman Inc.’s Fox Valley Armor to a 1:54.2 triumph in a $14,400 Delaware pace. Pan Au Chocolat (David Miller) took the place spot ahead of Dragon’s Heart (Brad Hanners).
Morgan added his fifth win of the night steering Dane Acres’ This Marks A Lady to her fourth consecutive victory of the meet. Canaco Lily (George Dennis) was runner-up with Nairobi Hanover (Jim King) third.
Morgan added the last two races on the Tuesday card to his growing list of dash wins, giving him seven trips to the winner’s circle.
Monday through Thursday racing begins at 4:30 p.m. No racing on Fridays. Saturday and Sunday post time is 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission or parking. Reservations are suggested for the Winner’s Circle Restaurant. Call 302-674-4600.
