Blue Swimmer A, Menno Boy win co-features at Dover

Dover, DE — Blue Swimmer A and Menno Boy won $20,000 Delaware Winners Over co-features at Dover Downs on Sunday, April 1, while three colt and two filly $20,000 DSBF second leg paces concluded the preliminary rounds.

The sport’s and the track’s leading driver, Tim Tetrick, won six races for the second straight card and Tony Morgan had three winners on the next to last Sunday card of the season. Trainers Chuck Crissman and Jason Skinner had two winners each.

Tetrick drove Robbins Next Farm and Wendy Crissman’s recent early 2007 acquisition Blue Swimmer A to his third win since arriving from Australia, overcoming a start from post eight to race gamely on the outside en route to a 1:53.4 victory in one of two $20,000 Delaware Winners Over Paces. The Safely Kept gelding beat Josh’s Z Tam, with Tony Morgan, and Roger Plante-driven Clinton Debriefed down the lane to overtake race leader Next Flight in deep stretch.

Robert Messick’s Menno Boy closed from far back to win the other $20,000 Delaware Winners Over Pace in 1:52.3. From sixth at the three-quarters, moving three and then four-wide, Jim Morand urged the Shady Character gelding on for a strong stretch dash to beat leader High Calibre N and Steve Warrington by a head. Iza Miraculous Guy with Kevin Sizer was a gritty third.

Earlier on the program, there were three $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) second and last preliminary legs for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers and two for filly paces.

Double Flip, owned by Earl and John Wagner and Winbak Farm, won her second straight $20,000 DSBF section as Tony Morgan drove the Badlands Hanover filly to an easy 1:53.2 victory. The second $20,000 filly prelim saw Tim Tetrick urge Roam’n At Cooly’s Stables’ Love And Truth from fifth at the half to first in short order and she then rolled on for a 1:55 win.

GTY Stable’s Be Bad Bill and Ross Wolfenden took the front early and led to the finish line in 1:54.1 to win the fastest $20,000 DSBF colt prelim. Kevin Sizer drove Mr Aviator to his second consecutive win for Trevor Warwick and Peter George in another prelim, notching a 1:54.3 triumph in a three-colt photo finish. Chang Racing Dynasty’s Skeleton Key, driven by Ben Stafford, Jr., made it two straight wins and four of his last five races, chalking up a 1:55.2 victory in the final division.

Redford Hall leads $37,500 Preferred on next to last Monday

Redford Hall returns and Clinton Longshot advances in the $37,500 Preferred Pace on Monday, April 2 at Dover Downs. Thin Blue Line heads the $35,000 Delaware Special while Print It leads the $28,500 Open Pace. The new post time for the rest of the current meet is now 5:30 p.m.

Lloyd Arnold’s Redford Hall, winner of last week’s $37,500 Preferred Handicap Pace, returns and starts from the outside in a select field of six. L&L DeVisser’s Gold Dust Beach with David Miller finished second, with Sharky Osborne and Brian Sears third. Lather Machine, owned by Gary and Barbara Iles and driver Ted Tetrick, was the race favorite last time but had to settle for fourth.

After an impressive 1:52 victory, his second straight, Marjorie Richards’ Clinton Longshot moves up from the Delaware Special to his first start in the Preferred ranks. Leaving from the rail is Jerome Voldock’s PH Top Dog with Ron Pierce.

Paul McDougall and WJ McDougall Racing’s Thin Blue Line, with Tony Morgan, and Kovach Stables’ Art Director and David Miller, drew posts one and seven respectively in the $35,000 Delaware Special. Erika and John Paradee and Mike Zimmerman’s Beware Beret, reined by Tim Tetrick, Bonnie Allen and Brenda Harper’s Prince Of Luck and Ross Wolfenden, and Virginia Louthan’s Wrangler Sam, Jim Morand driving, all raced last week.

Foulk Stables’ Diamond Revenge will be driven by Brad Hanners after a 1:52.1 victory last week, his second consecutive win, and Skedaddle Hanover, owned by Bob Aerenson, Ross Weiner and Wendy Crissman, also is a winner of two in a row as well as four of his last five races. They both move up in class.

Tom Kelly’s fast finishing Print It with Ron Pierce, Ken Wood’s Ross The Boss N with Roger Plante, Wayne Givens and Donick Stables What A View with Ross Wolfenden, and Scott Dillon’s Artchie Andrews lead the field in the Open Handicap Pace. Bill Emmons’ JK Jack and David Miller moves up after three consecutive wins, while Jack Davis’ Hot Lather was a 1:51.4 winner last time out. Wanda Saulsbury and Arty Foster III’s Jasper Bob, with Tim Tetrick, starts from the rail while Tom Ceraso and John Giumarra’s Coldheartedrevenge and Brad Hanners must overcome the outside post eight.
