Cabrini Hanover scored a two and three-quarter length victory in the first of two Tarport Hap divisions for three-year-old fillies.

Cabrini Hanover [$11.20, $7.40, $5.40] scored a two and three-quarter length victory and 95-1 Lovely Shark [$36.60, $19.40] edged out Savannah Sky [$5.20] for second money in the seventh race, the first of the two Tarport Hap divisions for three-year-old fillies.

The complexion of the race changed when 4-5 favorite Belovedangel broke stride on the way to the half.

“I was just gearing up to follow Jack [Moiseyev with Belovedangel] when his mare got rough,” said Brian Sears, who guided Cabrini to her second win in five starts this year. “I was lucky to get around him. I did get a good breather, and I was glad of that. When I called on her at the top of the lane, she responded well. She’s getting her confidence back.”

Runner-up Lovely Shark was making her first start with the bleeding medication Lasix.

“I was pretty happy with her tonight,” said driver John Campbell. “Obviously the Lasix helped her. She showed a lot of potential as a two-year-old so we were disappointed this season. But hopefully she’ll go on from here and win more races.”

At two, the Jimmy Takter-trained Cabrini Hanover, owned by Bob Anderson of St. Thomas, Ontario and David Willmot of King City, Ontario, won five of seven starts and $377,350. She now has career earnings of $465,790.

In the second division Just Wait Kate coasted to a length and three-quarter victory over Mary Sue Too in 1:50.4.

In the second division, the ninth race, Just Wait Kate [$4.40, $3.20, $3.40] coasted to a length and three-quarter victory over Mary Sue Too [$7.20, $5.60] in 1:50.4.

Art’s Risk [$9.80] got up for third, seven and three-quarter lengths back.

Just Wait Kate, driven by Ron Pierce and trained by Travis Alexander, recorded her fourth win in five starts this year and now has six wins, three seconds and two thirds from 11 career starts.

“At the quarter I was fourth going to the top,” Pierce said. “I tucked in the four-hole. She got a bit grabby so I had to tip her out. We got a good breather in the third quarter. This is a really nice filly. She didn’t surprise me at all.”

The daughter of Real Artist races for owners-breeders Arlene and Jules Siegel of New Hope, Pennsylvania.

“I wanted to try racing her off the pace but like Ron said she was grabby,” noted trainer Travis Alexander. “We’ll make some more changes.”

The Tarport Hap stakes record of 1:50, set in 2004 by Rainbow Blue, remained intact.

Both Cabrini Hanover and Just Wait Kate will be back next Friday for the eliminations for the Mistletoe Shalee.
