Cam Fella Series kicks off Saturday

Toronto, ON — Two flights of 3- and 4-year-old pacing colts and geldings will step behind the gate on Saturday night, March 7, in the Cam Fella Series at Woodbine, and one couldn’t ask for a more wide-open selection.

Card Dealer, a 4-year-old son of Camluck sent out by trainer and co-owner Don Lindsey, may use his considerable mileage to good advantage in the first C$35,000 split (race two, post time 7:51 p.m.). He’s a veteran of 48 starts already, with over C$130,000 earned for owners Lindsey, Paul Kleinpaste, William Alempijevic, and Dennis Mavrin. The gelding is coming off a win in a C$19,000 conditioned event on March 2 at Woodbine and will have Jody Jamieson in the bike for the second time on Saturday night.

Also in this division is the front-running Dinner Guest, whose connections must feel has a charmed life. He was recently one of two horses who emerged unscathed from an accident-marred Ontario Boys final in which eight colts went down like dominoes, and finished second to Windsun Twister.

In the second split (race four, post time 8:33 p.m.), trainer Casie Coleman will be sending out a recent arrival to her barn by the name of Real Celebration, who will be making his first start on Canadian soil.

The son of Real Artist has a record of seven wins in 27 starts but has been winless in three this season. Nonetheless, he’s been pegged as the 9-2 second choice in this field, and will have Mark MacDonald to guide him on his first trip around Woodbine’s oval.

Rated as the 2-1 favorite in this field is Beach Boy Toy, a son of Artiscape who has been no worse than third in six starts in 2009. Sent out by conditioner Jim Ainsworth, who co-owns with William Boden, Beach Boy Toy has earned C$40,000 already this season and seems primed for bigger things. He’ll be leaving from post five with Rick Zeron in the bike.

The second leg of the Cam Fella Series is slated for Saturday, March 14, with the C$67,000 (est.) final on Saturday, March 21.
