Pompano Beach, FL — Cam In Black ($14.60) posted his fourth win of the year with a 1:53.3 triumph in the third race $8,000 Open Handicap Pace at Pompano Park on Saturday. But the race was marred by a costly “run-in” during the race.

Cam In Black and driver Richard Simard breeze to a 1:53.3 triumph in the Open Handicap Pace at Pompano on Saturday.

Hot Rum, the 3-5 favorite, shot right to the lead for driver Kevin Wallis with Cam In Black (Richard Simard) getting the two hole trip as they went to the opening quarter in :27.4. Then Simard quarter-moved to take command again as Hearty Fellow (Bruce Ranger) came first-over and interfered with Hot Rum, sending him and Last Of Bella (Joe Pavia, Jr.) off-stride.

Cam In Black led the field to the half in :55 while Ira’s Noble Boy (Wally Hennessey) came second-over behind Hearty Fellow, who was parked first-over by the three-quarters in 1:25.

As they came down the stretch, Cam In Black was the easy winner with Ira’s Noble Boy second. Hearty Fellow, who had finished third, was placed last and Last Of Bella was placed from fourth to third.

A six-year-old gelding by Cambest, Cam In Black is trained by Jim McDonald and is owned by the SSG Stables of North Boston, New York.
