Cam In Black holds off Hearty Fellow to win the Open Pace on Saturday at Pompano.

Leaving from post six in the ninth race feature, Simard wasted no time showing who was cutting the mile, sending Cam In Black to the front to stay. Hearty Fellow and Kevin Wallis were able to rally from off the pace to close within a neck for second place while the pocket-sitting Life Sizzles (Dan Daley) faded to third place in the stretch.

It was the sixth victory of the year for Cam In Black, a six-year-old gelding by Cambest, who is owned by the SSG Stables of North Boston, New York.

The fastest mile of the night belonged to Mr Matturday Night ($4.20) in the seventh race pace, who stopped the teletimer in a lifetime best clocking of 1:51.4.

A four-year-old stallion by Matt’s Scooter, Mr Matturday Night got away in second place at the start as Wizsell (Wally Hennessey) was first to show. But a quick quarter move by driver Bruce Ranger sent Mr Matturday Night right to the front to stay as he pulled away from the field in the stretch to win by two and three-quarter lengths. Heartthrob (Stephan Lareau) was second with Wizsell third.

It was the fourth win this year for Mr Matturday Night, who is trained by Tom Becket for the Bruce Ranger Stable and is owned by Jean Bryer of Pompano Beach.
