Anderson, IN — Cambest Prince was in full gear down the stretch and would not be denied as he won the featured $22,000 Invitational Pace on Saturday, April 9 at Hoosier Park.

Driven by leading driver Brett Miller, Cambest Prince took his eighth victory in 11 starts this season from the outside post position, pacing the mile in 1:53, a seasonal best.

Cambest Prince gets up at the wire to win the Saturday feature at Hoosier Park.

“He (Cambest Prince) needed the whole stretch to win the race,” said Miller. “I knew we had a great chance of winning. He really enjoys this track.”

To win, Cambest Prince had to wait patiently as Indiana-bred Foxy Maneuver and trainer-driver Don Eash had control at the beginning of the contest. The duo led the field to the quarter pole in :27.4. From there, Foxy Maneuver had a breather to the half-mile pole in :57.3. Foxy Maneuver continued to lead the pack into the stretch after the three-quarter pole, which went in 1:25.2. However, Foxy Maneuver dropped out of contention and that led to Yukon Cornelius and driver Todd Warren taking over the lead. In deep stretch, Miller pulled Cambest Prince to the outside and drove him to victory at the wire, winning by a neck over longshot Yukon Cornelius. Spastic and driver Matt Lambert held on to their position and finished third.

“Whatever Foxy Maneuver’s and Eash’s plans were, I made sure my horse (Cambest Prince) did the opposite,” said Miller. “I have driven him one other time here and we seemed to do pretty well.”

Cambest Prince returned $4.80, $3.60, and $3.80 for the victory. The son of Cambest has bankrolled over $750,000. Samuel Jacobs and Charles Burris own the nine-year-old. Jeff Cox trains the brown gelding.

The win by Cambest Prince gave Miller his third victory on the 13-race card. Miller continues to lead the Hoosier Park driver colony with 13 wins on the season.
