Camifications zeroes in on Willowdale final

Toronto, ON — He was fourth and placed third in the opener on January 12, then impressed with a late rush to win the second leg on January 19. Now Rob Fellows trainee Camifications has set his sights on the C$59,600 final of the Willowdale Pacing Series for 4-year-olds, and with a plum post position he’s listed as the 3-1 morning line favorite.

“He’s a half-brother to Dragon Again,” Fellows says of the gelded son of Camluck-Ever And Again. “John Wagner sent him up to me in May, and he’s a nice horse. He was lightly raced at two, and he really learned how to race in the (Ontario) Sires Stakes.

“It took a while to learn how to drive him. He’s no good on the front; he likes to come from off the pace. I wasn’t sure at first he was going to be good enough for this series, but he has really stepped up his game. At this point his future is ahead of him.”

Fellows credits groom Lynn Poore as the unsung hero with Camifications, who is co-owned by Wagner, Richard De Joy, and John and Frank Denison.

“She’s done a great job with him,” he says.

And a recent driver change, made when regular pilot Randy Waples opted to sit behind trainer Bob McIntosh’s Daddy Mac, shouldn’t be an obstacle.

“When you have to change drivers, and you end up with Rick Zeron, you’re not doing too badly.”

All in all, Fellows likes Camifications’s chances in the Willowdale Series final, and more than that, he just likes Camifications.

“If you had 10 like him in your barn, your life would be easy,” he says.

Camifications faces off against fellow preliminary leg winners Daddy Mac and Keystone Matt in race five at Woodbine on Saturday night, Jan. 26. Post time is 8:54 p.m.
