East Rutherford, NJ — Hall of Fame driver John Campbell reined in the winners of both $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Championships for 2-year-old fillies on Wednesday night (July 9) at the Meadowlands.

I Wanted Wings was a head winner over Be My Baby in the NJSS final for 2-year-old trotting fillies.

Campbell steered I Wanted Wings to a 1:59.1 victory in the final for trotting fillies, the first of the two events. The daughter of Muscles Yankee-Veronica Lake held off Be My Baby by a head to post her second career win. Margarita Momma was a neck behind in third. I Wanted Wings paid $11.60 to win the night’s fifth race.

“I expected her to race well but with the 10-hole there’s a lot of variables that you can’t factor in,” said Campbell. “There were a couple (of breaking horses) inside of me around the first turn, but I was able to stay clear of them and she’s very professional for just having two starts. I lost my cover a little earlier than I would have liked but she was game right to the wire. They were coming at her, no question, but she was there when I called on her.”
