EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – April 2, 2004 – The only problem for Hall of Fame driver John Campbell, sidelined for three months, on his first night back at the Meadowlands was finding a fast horse to carry him to the winner’s circle.

Campbell, driving Friday night for the first time since December 19, 2003, finished out of the money in all six appearances.

“I feel good,” said Campbell, a 16-time leading driver at the Meadowlands. “I just wish the horses would feel as good as I do.

I’ve had no problems. I just need some faster horses. Everything will fall into place. I’m not worried about it. I just have to get out there and be competitive.”

Campbell finished seventh with Call Me Jate in the second race, fifth with Mighty Mite Morgan in the third, sixth with Valiant Heart N in the sixth, sixth with AJ’s Sammy in the seven, ninth with Brenden’s Journey in the eighth and fifth with Pure Broadway in the ninth.

Campbell, who has more than 9,200 career victories and $219 million in earnings, was initially hurt on March 23,2003 and returned from elbow surgery in June 19. He stopped driving again in December when soreness resurfaced in his right elbow.
