by “Catskill” Steve Terjanian

Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $20,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on Aug. 2, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 10-13, Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014

$1 play: 57/17/138/58 = $24

Analysis:

Race 10: (5) Dress The Part is a Scioto shipper who had pace finishing after being parked past a :26.2 opening quarter. Finds a good spot at a level he should fit for the always tough Morgan barn. (7) Holy Chip has chased sparkling miles in last two, takes key drop and should be coming out of the clouds late.

Race 11: (7) Hello My Dream was out early from 10 hole, pushed hard uncovered, pacing :54.1 middle half while unable to clear, didn’t fade badly considering. Talented filly takes on older mares once again but appears to have the ability to beat them with kinder trip. (1/1A) Dallas Jones left and tucked from seven hole, sat in and was shuffled, then finished fast once clear in unlucky try. Gets slightly better post and has the speed to take this.

Race 12: (1) Love You Always has been dull in last two after unleashing a :26.1 second quarter brush to the top before tiring against tougher three back. Takes a key drop, gets the rail and will likely perk up. (3) M A Duty made a :26.2 third quarter brush to the top in Illinois sophomore stakes event last time, couldn’t hold off leader of the division late and finished second in solid try. Filly seems to be getting better and wouldn’t be surprised to see her take these. (8) Schmatie was overloaded with late pace in Balmoral return after showing speed in her last visit. Mare fits well with these and is dangerous on or from off the pace.

Race 13: (5) Sunset Dreamer has chased better in last two after reeling off three straight here prior. Sophomore has the most early speed of any in here and can take them a long way. (8) I’m Real Good took a lifetime best against lesser two back then rocketed home from far back to nail place behind runaway winner in latest.

Good luck!
