by “Catskill” Steve Terjanian

Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $25,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on July 6, part of the United States Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering Program.

Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 7-10, Sunday, July 6, 2014

$1 play: 13510/4/236/6 = $12

Analysis:

Race 7: In a race where a number of entrants can take it I’ll go four deep. (1) Sunset Dreamer steps up in career best form and gets the rail. (3) Conzo is also in sharp form off a series of game miles. (5) Im A Dan Fool was a sick scratch last time following a disappointing mile at 4-5, somehow getting a third over trip from post two. The 4-year-old put in a sharp rally two back, pacing a :56 final half which included a :26.4 final quarter and is a major player with anything close to that mile. (10) I’m Real Good brushed to the top but bottomed out, pacing a :54.4 middle half. The 4-year-old has paced some fast miles recently, including a 1:54 number three back, and seems to have enough speed to handle outside slot.

Race 8: (4) Fox Valley Veto has raced well in Illinois bred sophomore stakes events and may continue to move forward facing older foes tonight.

Race 9: (2) One Jazzy Lady was overmatched against Pennsylvania Sire Stakes foes two back, then returned to Balmoral to go down the road in confident fashion against lesser. Takes on older foes tonight with plenty of upside. (3) Kesons Allure was uncovered through :55.4 final half against better field last time after finishing solidly two back, rallying off a slow early pace. Mare has raced well this year after missing the entire 2013 season and would seem to have a good shot with these. (6) Always A Robin has shown speed in all recent starts and may be looking at a pocket trip.

Race 10: (6) Become Legendary was claimed while racing in sharp form at Maywood. The 5-year-old has shown strong middle half moves in two of his last three which may be better served over the mile oval.

Good luck!
