by “Catskill” Steve Terjanian

Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $20,000 Pick-4 at Hawthorne Race Course on June 26 as part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Hawthorne Raceway Pick-4, Races 9-12, Sunday, June 26, 2016

Last Sunday (June 19) , I invested $18 and had the final two legs -$18.00.

50-cent play: 268/569/89/15 = $18

Analysis:

Race 9: (6) Four Star Louie had a tough spot in return to the races, paced a 1:24.3 final three-quarters in what should serve as a good tightener. Picks up meet’s leading driver and looks set in second start since last November. (2) Skyway Brenlin lacked a rally in needed race off the bench. Gets a key driver switch and could be ready for top effort if sharp Hoosier qualifier on 6/11 is any indication. (8) Earndawg has yet to find top sophomore form of a year ago which saw him bank over $98,000 but has looked better in recent weeks and may be inching his way back to a semblance of that top form.

Race 10: (6) Dali Treasure was shuffled back last time then had a tough trip trying to close off slow early pace, finished with a sharp :26.2 final panel with no real shot, two back rallied strongly from far back to nail place behind runaway winner. Filly remains sharp and looks ready to handle this group. (5) Dandy’s Diva never fired last time but did pace a :56 middle half before weakening. Filly has some ability but will need best. (9) Lady’s Art continues to draw tough posts but has been racing well nonetheless and is usually charging late.

Race 11: (8) Daggy has been racing sharper than any in here and looks best despite post 8 and just one win in last 22 starts. (9) Lestrade Hanover was used twice in fast pace and didn’t fade badly. Would be the choice from better post but will offer some value from this spot against a camera-shy bunch.

Race 12: I’ll wrap it up with the two likely favorites in finale. (1) Parklane Dragon charged home with :56.4 final half to just miss in three-horse photo and (5) Can’t Catch Key who finished alertly with :27.1 final quarter after being parked to the top past opening quarter. Either should take it.

Good Luck!
