Campbellville, ON — Chancey Lady used an explosive final quarter rush to capture Saturday night’s (September 22) C$130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final for 2-year-old filly pacers at Mohawk Racetrack in a time of 1:53.1.

After blasting off the wings from post nine, the daughter of Camluck-Art Of Design, with Mark MacDonald in the bike, zipped past the first panel in :27 seconds before yielding to race favorite Voelz Hanover in the second quarter.

Chancey Lady followed that rival through splits of :56.2 and 1:25.4 and then found room when the field turned for home. The speedy filly was able to find another gear and quickly inhaled the pacesetter while widening her margin at the finish. Voelz Hanover held second over an onrushing Gold Not Silver.

“I thought I’d take a shot with the nine-hole and leave a little bit,” said driver Mark MacDonald. “I was hoping Rick (Rick Zeron driver of Voelz Hanover) would come around me, his filly was the one to follow. She’s got good stamina, she’s a good filly. Casie (winning trainer Casie Coleman) brought her along slow, and she did a good job with her.”

Coleman was not surprised by the filly’s strong effort, which was a career best.

“This filly since day one is a filly that I’ve been high on,” she said. “I remember calling owner Niele Jiwan and saying I really want this filly. She can do it anyway you want, she’s a nice filly who is quite versatile.”

Saturday night’s win was the fourth in just five starts this year for Chancey Lady and increased her bankroll to just over the C$100,000 mark for Jiwan, who resides in Burnaby, B.C.

Kadabra fillies sweep OSS Gold elims

Daughters of Kadabra swept both C$53,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold eliminations for 2-year-old filly trotters on Saturday night.

Torch flashed early speed in the first split for driver Jody Jamieson and found the pocket just before the opening quarter of :28.2, which was put up by Windsun Magical. At that point, longshot Gaelic Mistress shot out from third and cleared to command at the half in :57.4.

As the field neared the far turn, Jamieson tipped his filly to the outside and she got right up beside the leader at the third panel in 1:27.4. The final outcome was in doubt right up until the finish with Torch digging in for a game 1:57.4 decision over Magical Memories and Windsun Magical.

It was the sixth win in 10 outings this season for Torch, who is out of the Valley Victory mare Red Hot And Blue. Trained by Carl Jamieson, she now sits with more than C$118,000 for Jamieson and partner Ken Kenwood of Mississauga, Ontario.

In the second elimination, Feels Like Magic broke her maiden with a convincing first-over win for Bill O’Donnell in 1:58.1. The filly wore down the pacesetting favorite, Thy Worthys Jwl, and then put away late challenges from runner-up Delphic and third-place finisher Beyond Limits.

The Kevin O’Reilly trainee is now one-for-four in her brief career for the Feels Like Magic Stable of Campbellville, Ontario. The victory increased her seasonal take to just over C$65,000.
