Colts contest Wilson elims; Thong rolls in Shalee splits

East Rutherford, NJ – Mysticism breezed to a 1:51.1 clocking in the first of two $20,000 Woodrow Wilson eliminations for 2-year-old colt pacers on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

With Ron Pierce in the sulky, Mysticism made a backside brush to the lead and drew off to a 3-length victory over Get Jazzed. The son of Dragon Again-Imawesternlady is perfect in two starts for trainer Steve Elliott. He paid $3.00 to win the night’s second race. Emerald Express, Come Together and Hurrikane Jon Paul also advanced to the $350,000 Woodrow Wilson Final on August 1.

Vertigo Hanover defeated Major In Art to win the second Wilson elim in 1:51.1.

Vertigo Hanover pounced off fractions set by dueling leaders Hypnotic Blue Chip and Mobile to win the second Wilson elim in 1:51.1. Jody Jamieson steered the son of The Panderosa-Varbo to his second win in three starts. The colt is trained by Duane Marfisi and owned by Uncirculated Stables, who teamed to win the 2007 Wilson with Dali.

Major In Art finished three-quarters of a length behind in second. Hypnotic Blue Chip held third, while Gordieisanartist and Get It Now also moved on to the Wilson Final.

The field for the $407,400 Mistletoe Shalee on Hambletonian Day, August 2, was also decided by a pair of elimination races Friday night.

Thong continued her reign over the 3-year-old pacing fillies division with a powerful first-over performance in the second of the two $25,000 Mistletoe Shalee elims. Driven by Tim Tetrick, Thong coasted to her fourth straight win in 1:50.2, equaling her career best clocking set in the Tarport Hap last week. Kevin Lare trains the Western Hanover-Bikini Line filly.

McArts N Crafts (5) got up by a neck to win the first Mistletoe Shalee elim over Desirable Candy and Tug River Princess in 1:50.

It was 1-1/2 lengths to runner-up A and G’sconfusion. Good News Lady, Stylish Artist and Happy Dreamer also advanced to the Mistletoe Shalee Final.

In a three-horse rush to the wire, McArts N Crafts got up by a neck to win the first Mistletoe Shalee elim over Desirable Candy and Tug River Princess in 1:50. Yannick Gingras guided McArts N Crafts to her fifth career victory. The daughter of McArdle-Jardin des Arts won the Sweetheart Pace at two for trainer-owner Haralabos Giannoulis.

Respective fourth and fifth-place finishers Miss Scarlett and Sunshine Seelster completed the Mistletoe Shalee field.
