Credit Winner impressive in early speed stats
July 20, 2005,by Dean A. Hoffman
Credit Winner’s second crop hit the races this summer with the impact of a Category 5 hurricane.
He is not only the sire of Here Comes Herbie, fastest juvenile trotter on both a half-mile and 5/8-mile tracks, but he is also the sire of Frank The Hands, second fastest trotter on a 7/8-mile or mile track.
These statistics on the fastest 2-year-olds of 2005 were compiled on Tuesday and are subject to change every time juveniles race, but the early success of Credit Winner certainly won’t change.
In addition to Here Comes Herbie and Frank The Hands, Credit Winner is the sire of Gluteus Maximus and Chocolatier, both among the fastest juvenile trotters on a 5/8-mile track.
He is the leading money-winning sire of 2-year-old trotters at this stage of the summer.
The fastest juvenile trotter of the season is Klipspringer, a Banker Hall filly. She’s trained by Jonas Czernyson for Menhammer Stuteri of Sweden and David Miller drove her to a 1:57 win in a New Jersey Sires Stakes at The Meadowlands last week.
Two pacers are tied with miles in 1:52.2 to be the fastest freshman of the season. Artstanding is a son of Artsplace, trained by Tom Fanning for Bob Gorney and James Switlyk of New Jersey. His 1:52.2 victory last week in a New Jersey Sires Stakes final nudged his seasonal earnings to the precipice of $100,000.
He’s Personal, a gelded son of Badlands Hanover, is tied for the fastest 2-year-old on a mile track and on a 5/8-mile track. He won a division of the Goshen Cup at the Meadowlands in late June in 1:52.2, and came back to win a Reynolds division at Pocono in 1:54.1. Wayne Whitson trains the pacer for Lester Walls and Jack Upchurch.
It’s interesting to note that The Panderosa is the sire of four of the 10 fastest freshman pacers on a 5/8-mile track. Not surprisingly, each of the four took his record on either The Meadows or Pocono Downs, tracks in Pennsylvania, which is where The Panderosa stands at Hanover Shoe Farms.
The influence of sires stakes is seen in the three fastest 2-year-old pacers on a half-mile track. All three were sired in Ohio and each one took his record at Northfield Park in Cleveland.
Filly trotters show up far more often, of course, than filly pacers. In fact, among the fastest freshman pacers on a 7/8-mile or mile track, there are no fillies. If you look at the same list for trotters, you will find a dominance of fillies, starting with Klipspringer and including daughters of Mr Lavec, Enjoy Lavec, Sj’s Caviar, Striking Sahbra, Self Possessed, and Dream Vacation.
Listed below are the 10 fastest 2-year-olds on each size track as of Tuesday morning. If a horse has more than one mile among the 10 fastest, only the lowest time is listed. So a horse can—and some do—appear on more than one list, but a horse is listed only once among the top 10.
