Davies wins a pair at Plainridge

Marlborough, MA — Driver-trainer Ivan Davies is a good example of ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try try again.’

After finishing second in Monday’s (May 28) eighth race at Rockingham Park with the trotter Cocktail Hour, he quickly left the Salem, New Hampshire oval and headed some 80 miles south to Plainridge Racecourse in Massachusetts.

Things couldn’t have turned out better as Davies scored a pair of wins with Cast A Beam in the ninth race and McCoy in the 11th as early evening set in. The feat was made possible because of The Rock’s 1:05 p.m. afternoon post and Plainridge’s 4:00 p.m. post time. File under all’s well that ends well.

The good sized Labor Day crowd at Plainridge was treated to plenty of surprises. Driver John Sears started things off in the day’s opener, featuring the New England Amateur Drivers Club, by getting up at the wire with Joey P at 14-1 to nose out Sing One Song.

Two races later, amateur club president Billy Abdelnour got his first win of the season with a five length front-running score with Franco Trigon N in 1:58.

Racing continues on Tuesday, May 29, at Plainridge with a 4:00 p.m. post time.
