Campbellville, ON — Ten colt and gelding trotters were sent postward Monday night (May 30) to contest their C$130,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold final. Daylon Magician tied Arch Madness’ OSS record when he arrived under the wire first in a sizzling 1:53.2.

Daylon Magician and Jack Moiseyev were 1:53.2 winners in the OSS Gold final on Monday.

The son of Kadabra was taken off the gate by driver Jack Moiseyev and settled into fifth while Mr Joe Sixpack (Jody Jamieson) and Buckhams Bay (Jacques Herbert) were the first off the gate, with Jamieson and his charge hitting the quarter in :28.2.

Mr Joe Sixpack remained the tempo setter, clocking a comfortable halfway time of :57.3. He didn’t remain comfortable for very long as Daylon Magician geared up from fifth, gaining and using Lakefield (Trevor Ritchie) as cover.

The pack rolled by the three-quarters in 1:26.1 with Lakefield and Daylon Magician eating away at Mr Joe Sixpack’s lead. However, Daylon Magician found another gear and kicked three wide around Lakefield and Mr Joe Sixpack to pull away and win by 1-3/4 lengths, trotting his last quarter in :26.3.

Driver Jack Moiseyev wasn’t surprised that his charge was able to put up big fractions considering how easy he won last week in the elimination.

“Finishing last week, I had a death grip on him, I was real happy with him,” said Moiseyev. “Last week he came home in :27.3 under wraps and I wasn’t really asking him too much. He’s real nice gated.”

This week, the trotter put up the fractions just as easily.

“You don’t really notice the time until after the race, but I knew we were trotting fast,” commented Moiseyev.

Daylon Magician is owned, trained and bred by David Lemon and boasts a lifetime record of 4-2-1 in nine starts and now has a bankroll of C$245,300.
