Deadline for USTA candidate declaration is Thursday (Feb. 8)

Columbus, OH — The deadline for candidates to declare their intention to run for one of the five officers to be elected to the U.S. Trotting Association’s Board of Directors is Thursday (Feb. 8).

Declaration letters from all candidates should be sent to Secretary Michele Kopiec at the USTA office in Westerville, Ohio, and must be received by the end of business on Feb 8.

The election of officers for Chairperson of the Board, Vice-Chairperson of the Board, Treasurer, and Secretary, each for a one-year term, will take place at the USTA annual meeting on Saturday (March 9) at the Hilton Columbus at Easton.

In addition, due to a clerical error that was discovered nine days prior to the 2023 annual meeting in which it was discovered that President Williams’ term expired in 2023 but was erroneously listed as expiring in 2024 in the USTA Rule Book and on the USTA website, there will also be a presidential election.

At the opening session of the 2023 meeting, a motion was made and approved by the full board, per Section 11.04 of the bylaws, for the executive committee to elect an interim president for a period of one year, with a full presidential election to take place in 2024; the executive committee elected Russell Williams to fill the presidency for the one-year term. Thus, the individual elected in 2024 shall serve the remainder of the term, which will expire in 2027.

Any candidate wishing to run for President must send their declaration letter to Michele Kopiec by Thursday (Feb. 8).

For more information, contact Michele Kopiec at 614.224.2291, ext. 3294, or by email at michele.kopiec@ustrotting.com.
