Delaware Commission upholds DSBF redraw

Harrington, DE — Months after she crossed the wire first in the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund final for 3-year-old trotting fillies, TP Lucy is finally set to receive her share of the $100,000 purse.

Purse money for the race, contested at Dover Downs April 8, had not been distributed because of protests entered by several of the competitors in the race over the fact that it had been redrawn to allow horses, including TP Lucy, that had missed the draw to enter.

On June 9, however, the Delaware Harness Racing Commission upheld the redraw of the race, according to Hugh Gallagher, director of the DHRC.

“The Racing Commission upheld the decision to have the redraw,” he said. “The purse shall be distributed as it was earned that night.”

He said that at Tuesday’s commission hearing, while there had been several horsemen that originally protested the redraw, only two spoke. Now that the commission voted to uphold the redraw, an attorney will file a court order stating as much. Protesters will have 15 business days from the date of the court order to take action in court, Gallagher said.

TP Lucy, a chestnut filly by Linbo and out of the mare Fastreena, is owned by New Jersey trainer Mark Waterman.
