FREEHOLD, NJ – – Kelvin Harrison’s The Real Dion closed strongly through the stretch and captured the featured $15,000 Open handicap for pacers over a sloppy racing surface at Freehold Raceway on Saturday.
The five-year-old, gelded son of Real Artist prevailed by one-half length in 1:55.1 with George Brennan at the reins. A late-arriving Nvincble Artist (Cat Manzi) finished second, a head in front of Daylon Trooper (David Miller).
The Real Dion notched his fourth win in 12 starts this season in capturing the main event. Overlooked in the wagering at 6-1, the Harrison trainee rewarded his supporters with win mutuel of $14.40.
