Doc’s Yankee dazzles again in OSS action at Scioto

Columbus, OH — The juvenile Doc’s Yankee continued to impress horsemen with another effortless win at Scioto Downs on Saturday night. This one came in a $23,400 division of the Ohio Sires Stakes for freshman pacing males timed in 1:55.1

Three New Dawns and Doc’s Yankee dueled throughout the opening quarter with the 1-5 favorite taking over just after that station was passed in 27.3. Driver Kyle Ater then had the son of Yankee Cruiser on cruise control and he paced to the wire two lengths ahead of 66-1 long shot Sand Summerfield. Ab’s Attack finished third.

The other division of the OSS for freshman pacing males went to Contraband in 1:55.2 for driver Jeff Nisonger and trainer-owner Bruce Farquhar, He prevailed in a blanket finish over Standing Tough and Trick Man.

A trio of 2-year-old trotters were sub-2:00 winners in their splits of the OSS. The fastest was Sing Jesse Sing, a gate-to-wire 1:58.2 winner for Ray Paver. Mike Medors trains the son of Jailhouse Jesse whose victory was never in doubt after Rose Run Legend and Call The Warden made early breaks. Sing Jesse Sing is owned by Bret Hoovler and Slaughter Racing.

Call The Warden recovered to finish second while Lima Apollo grabbed the show dough.

Chipariffic won in 1:58.3 after zooming to the lead from post eight. He was two lengths on top at the wire for Ray Payer with Glitzy Sam second and Count Dracula third. J.W. Miller trains and owns the son of Chip Chip Hooray.

Cool Colby was a 1:58.4 winner for trainer-driver Jim Dailey, also taking the front-end route to victory. Sharp Edge was three lengths back in second while My D Sammy got third. Kimberly Dailey and Keith Ross own the winner.

Amorts A repeated last week’s victory in the Capital City Pacing series, going to the front for driver Jeff Nisonger, giving himself a breather with a slow second quarter, and then sprinting to the wire. This time his margin was a nose over Stringowner with Chili NZ just a neck back in third. The mile was clocked in 1:54. Brent Davis owns the winner and his father R. Mac Davis trains the Aussie import.

Hello Carlo triumphed in the Heart Of Ohio Trotting Series for owner Mario Caponi with a 1:56.4 win. Chris Page was on the bike and the 5-year-old trotter held off late challenges from Athlete In Action and Near The Limit. Larry Clabaugh trains the winner.
