Scarborough, ME — Two sons of Current Cast set the gold standard at Scarborough Downs on Thursday (July 23) as Current Closer stopped the clock in 2:01.4 for driver Mark Athearn while stablemate Current Ca Ching (Don Richards) completed the course in 2:02.3 to sweep both $10,181 splits of the 3-year-old colt division of the Maine Sire Stakes program.

Current Closer and driver Mark Athearn posted their fourth consecutive stakes victory on Thursday at Scarborough Downs.

Bragging rights will be hard to determine though as the two victorious colts are both housed in the Cumberland Fairgrounds stable of Maine Hall of Fame member Donald Richards and owned in partnership by Thomas Dillon and Walter Hight.

Current Closer remained undefeated in stakes completion this season, having now paraded down victory lane in four consecutive legs of the state-bred program.

In other stakes news on Thursday, the 3-year-old filly divisions were claimed by Pembroke Annie (Heath Campbell) and A Cappella Bella (Ivan Davis) — the later of these also remaining undefeated in stakes company this season with four consecutive top tallies to her credit.

Maine Sire Stakes action returns to Scarborough Downs on Saturday evening (July 25) as the 2-year-old colt pacers make their 2009 debut.

Scarborough Downs proudly features live harness racing every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 4:30 p.m. (EDT). The popular Sunday matinees feature a 1:30 p.m. post time.
