Ft. Washington, MD — Two divisions of the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund for freshman pacing fillies were held on Saturday evening (August 12) at Rosecroft, and both winners dominated their classes with wire-to-wire trips.

In the sixth race worth $18,100, Double Flip ($4.00, $3.20, $2.10) took command of the race track for driver John Wagner to win in 1:56.1. The daughter of Badlands Hanover, owned by the Winbak Farm, and John and Earl Wagner, got to the lead immediately after leaving the gate. Double Flip paced through quarters of :27.3, :57 and 1:25.4 to win by a length as the even-money favorite.

Tell Hillary ($8.40, $4.40) was impressive up the passing lane for second after scoring a perfect trip along the rail with Donnie Russell at her lines. The daughter of Misfit, owned by Russell and Edward Needle, followed the leader gamely through the mile to close with a :29.4 last quarter.

Dressed For Summer ($2.20) crossed under the wire third with Brad Hanners in the bike and Love And Truth (Victor Kirby) completed the $240.10 superfecta.

Later in the evening, another field of two-year-old distaff pacers went head-to-head for a purse of $18,300. Justasplashofwhite ($5.20, $3.00, $2.40) got away from the gate in second but confidently took the lead with a quarter-pole move. Driven by Victor Kirby, the Shotgun Scott filly drew away by over six lengths to set a new lifetime mark of 1:55.1. The filly closed with a :28.1 final quarter after heading the field through fractions of :28, :58 and 1:26.4. Owned by Charlene and Danyell Long, Leslie Regan and Carlie Long, Justasplashofwhite earned her fourth lifetime win from four starts. Jeff Long trains the filly.

Honeyland ($5.60, $4.60) finished second under the guidance of Wayne Long. The trainee of George Teague, Jr. dueled for the lead but took a seat to Justasplashofwhite after the quarter pole. The daughter of Badlands Hanover races for owner John Celii.

On The Money ($6.80) closed well for third with Corey Braden in the bike and Betting Machine (Donnie Russell) was fourth in the $949.70 superfecta.

Go Flyin N heavy favorite in Tuesday Open Pace

On Tuesday evening (August 15) at Rosecroft, Lester Walls and Jack Upchurch’s Go Flyin N is the 7-5 early choice in the $10,200 Open Pace for fillies and mares.

The seven-year-old Sands A Flyin mare is eying her fourth consecutive victory in this class and will leave the gate from post two with Rosecroft’s leading driver John Wagner in the sulky. Go Flyin N currently has a lifetime mark of 1:51.1 set on the Rosecroft oval on July 15. Trained by Wayne Whitson, Jr., Go Flyin N has over $154,000 in lifetime earnings.

Calling Card is the 4-1 second choice for owner Victor Robertson. The four-year-old Shady Character mare was second last week behind Go Flyin N. Trainer Jeff Long has named Corey Braden to drive and the pair will leave the gate from post four.

The remainder of the field is well matched: Late Rose (Bill Long, 5-1), Boca Hanover (Frank Milby, 8-1), Drivin’ Miss Rudee (Donnie Russell, 5-1) and Kellytuck Sophie (Corey Callahan, 5-1) will also face the starter.
