Dr No & Ponder advance to $650,000 Haughton Final

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – July 8, 2006 – Dr No, the 2005 winner of the William R. Haughton Memorial, headlines the field of 10 free for all pacers who, on Saturday night, earned spots in the $650,000 Haughton Final on July 15 at the Meadowlands.

Dr No defeated odds-on favorite Mypanmar in the first of the two $50,000 Haughton elims.

Dr No [$6.60, $2.40, $2.20], driven by Cat Manzi and trained by William Elliott, got up for a three-quarter-length victory over odds-on favorite Mypanmar [$2.20, $2.10] in the first of the two $50,000 Haughton elims, carded as the third race.

Pacific Renegade [$2.40] was four and a quarter lengths back in third.

Load the Dice, fourth, and Canyon Wind, fifth, also earned spots in the final.

Dr No, owned by the Ontario-based partnership of Brian Legge, Dr. David Legge and Robert Stewart, paced the mile in 1:48.4

Ponder [$7.60, $4.40, $3.00], driven John Campbell, got up in the final strides to win the second division, the fifth race, in 1:48.2, a career best. In a tight photo finish, Leading X Ample [$9.00, $3.60], who was flying on the outside, was second by nose. Boulder Creek [$2.40] was third by neck.

Hop Sing and Casimir Camotion grabbed the last two spots. A length separated the first six horses.

Ponder, owned by trainer Robert McIntosh, CSX Stables and John Fielding, was third in the 2005 edition of the Haughton, finishing behind Dr No and Boulder Creek.
