Dream Rocket and Rob Roy Mattgregor turned in narrow victories in their respective $19,000 division of the Fox Sports Net Series on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Both four-year-olds will advance to the $46,300 Fox Sports Net Final on April 24.

Dream Rocket [$3.60, $3.20, $2.40] held on to win a three-horse photo in the first division, carded as the third race, pacing the mile in 1:52.3. John Campbell guided Dream Rocket to a neck victory over Mighty Mite Morgan [$12.60, $4.60]. Dream Believer [$2.60] got up for third by a half-length.

“He has had a lot of front end trips so I tried to give him an easier,” said Campbell. “But it worked out to be tougher. He did real good. I think he’s going into the final in good shape.”

Dream Rocket, a gelded son of Pacific Rocket owned by the Boy Oh Boy Stable of Manalapan, New Jersey, picked up his fourth win with four seconds and a third in 15 starts and earnings of $96,610 this year.

“He’s been tough every since I’ve had him,” said Jerry Evilsizor, who has trained the horse since December. “He’s real good and tries every step of the way. I don’t know what he’d do if he got a perfect trip. He’s very competitive and an honest horse. He’s ready to race every week with very little maintenance. A couple of starts ago he was racing over his head but this series fits him well.”

Dream Rocket already annexed the $70,000 Exit 16W Final on February 21.

Rob Roy Mattgregor [$3.00, $2.40, $2.10], sent off as the 1-2 favorite, gave his backers something to worry about but held on to win by a nose over the hard charging It’s Not Luck [$3.00, $2.20]. It was three lengths back to Liberal Arts [$2.20] in third. Rob Roy Mattgregor paced the mile in 1:52.2.

“He wasn’t as ready as he was last week,” said Yannick Gingras, the driver of Rob Roy Mattgregor, who has now won both of his series starts. “He was better than. I was just trying to get him into the final. I wanted to race him in a hole tonight, but I ended up in a bad spot. I wanted to sit behind Patrick’s horse [Patrick Lachance with It’s Not Luck], but I ended up third. So I went to the lead. Patrick’s horse is a big horse and takes time to get into gear. I really needed the wire.”

Trained by Virgil Morgan Jr., Rob Roy Mattgregor is owned by the Darby’s Edge Stable of London, Ohio, and Joseph DiScala Jr. of Chappaqua, New York. He now has seven wins, two seconds and one third in 14 starts for earnings of $56,140 this year.
