Campbellville, ON — Dreamfair Eternal, who was voted Canada’s Horse of the Year in 2010, returned to action Monday morning (May 9) at Mohawk Racetrack. The daughter of Camluck-J Cs Nathalie finished second in her qualifying effort in 1:54.1 for driver Randy Waples.

The 45-time winner sat in the pocket behind Mach Dreamer through panels of :28.4, :58.3 and 1:27.3 before Mach Dreamer scored the contest in 1:54.1. Dreamfair Eternal finished 1-3/4 lengths behind with her own mile timed in 1:54.3.

Dreamfair Eternal has career earnings of $1,630,693 for owner John Lamers. Mach Dreamer, who has earned $492,922 in his career, made his first charted line as a 4-year-old for driver Rick Zeron and owner Stephen Scarff.

“I was really happy with her,” Waples said about Dreamfair Eternal. “She’s really not one to come out in the morning and do a whole lot of extra work unless she has to. I was really happy today, the track was just average and it’s windy out today. She followed a good horse in Mach Dreamer and she was right on his helmet at the wire.”

O’Brien Award winner Windsong Soprano captured her qualifying contest in a comfortable 1:57 for Waples and trainer Bob McIntosh.

The 17-time winner sat third before the opening quarter in :29.1, before taking command to lead through panels of :59.4 and 1:29. She then opened up on her rivals down the stretch to score the win by over two lengths.

“She’s always a pleasure to sit behind,” Waples commented. “She’s perfect gaited and does everything the way you want her to do it. Bob always has them ready to go.”

Lothlorien of Cheltenham, Ontario, owns the 5-year-old daughter of Windsong’s Legacy who has $1,222,369 in lifetime earnings.

Other qualifying winners from Monday morning include Mac Lennan (1:59.1); Rockratese (1:59); Harlow Seelster (1:58.2); Mach Of Ballykeel (1:55.4-North America Cup eligible); Undercover Strike (1:57.4); Random Holdup (1:59.3); and Outrageous Art (1:56).
