Driven To Win looks to repeat in Preferred Pace at Dover

DOVER, Del. — Driven To Win, fresh from a 1:51 track record for age, gender and gait last week, leads nine in the $36,000 Preferred Pace on Monday, March 28 at Dover Downs. A $32,500 Delaware Special, a $27,000 Open and two $18,000 Delaware Winners-Over are on the standout undercard. First post is 4:30 p.m. ET.

Driven To Win enjoyed a perfect trip in winning the $35,000 Preferred Handicap pace on Monday, March 21 at Dover Downs in a track record 1:51.

David Miller enjoyed a perfect trip driving Driven To Win for Ted Gewertz, Martha and Milton Frank and trainer Joe Holloway to victory in the fastest time for a four-year-old last Monday. Local favorite Nick Callahan’s Master This, another four-year-old, cut out the quick fractions for Brian Sears before relinquishing the lead in the final strides. Parker Callahan’s Beware Beret and Ross Wolfenden raced evenly finishing third in front of GR Associates’ Life Is A Cabaret, and Jim Morand.

Three horses who did not race in this event last week are: Call Me Jate, owned by Chuck Sylvester, Juniper II and Having Fun Stable, who steps up with Brad Hanners after winning the Jr. Open last week, Ron Mario’s Bay Sign returns after a week’s respite with Jonathan Roberts driving, and Neal Oksenberg, M.G. Gehman and Ginger Tree Stable’s Corporate Rrraider who starts from the second tier with Tim Curtin in the bike from post 8 in the 9th race feature. The other participants are Jeff Franklin’s tough campaigner Clinton Debriefed, driven by Travis Bowman, and Rojan Stables and Doc&Me Inc.’s fast finishing Arizona Liar, who will be driven by Cat Manzi.

Four starters in the $32,500 Delaware Special were winners last time out. Green Racing’s Dreamfair Titan (Jim Morand), a winner of his last two drew the rail. The Tar Heel Stable’s Iwannabesedated (Brad Hanners) is alongside with Bill Bignall’s BJ’s Breeze (Sean Bier) next. Last week’s event winner Wayne Pryor and Wendy Crissman’s Time Flies N (Brian Sears) drew post 6.

The other contenders are Elmer Fannin’s Make A Success (Eddie Davis Jr.), Jeff Franklin and Todd Wise’s Little Rock Spur, a winner of two of his last three and starting from the outside in the field of seven is Bramalea Road, owned by MJ Racing, Tina and trainer-driver George Dennis.

Bill Emmons’ Kilkerran Scot (Brian Sears) will attempt to defend his win in the $27,000 Open Handicap this week. Beecher Park (Brad Hanners), owned by Howard Taylor and Harness The Power, finished second with Tom Dillon and Walter Hight’s Ashlee’s Big Guy (Jim Morand), the third-place finisher.

Completing the field are Pam Hanauer and Lorie Davis’ Primary Colours N (Steve Warrington), Bill Camp’s Racing Naked (George Dennis), Don Hawk, John Hynansky and trainer Dan Warrington’s fast Racsan John (Vic Kirby). Doctor Rich (Eddie Davis) starts from the rail for Allan Pullman and Joe Glickstein while Saucy Master N (Kevin Sizer), owned by Peter George and trainer Trevor Warwick, has the outside post 8.

Rodney Mitchell’s Dream Wave (Eddie Davis) and Carter Racing’s Fox Oshaughnessy A (Brad Hanners) lead one $18,000 Delaware Winners-Over pace while Dean Esham’s Jates The Ticket (Eddie Dennis), Wendy Crissman’s Tyler A (Brian Sears) and Rocky Spur (Brad Hanners), owned by Jeff Franklin and Todd Wise, are in the other division in which KDK Standardbred’s Valerin K (Jim Morand), the 2004 DSBF double champion, makes his seasonal debut.

Crew Cut Zach (Brad Hanners), owned by Gary and Barbara Iles, Wayne Pryor and Wendy Crissman’s Pfeil (Brian Sears) and Woody Long and trainer Bobby Glassmeyer’s Stagedoor Left (Kevin Sizer) lead eight in a $17,500 Delaware Winners-Over pace.

Monday through Thursday post time is 4:30 p.m. No live racing Fridays and Saturdays in April. Sunday races start at 5:30 p.m. There is no charge for parking or admission. Reservations are suggested for the Winner’s Circle Restaurant – 302-674-4600.
