Yonkers, NY — Driver Johnny Shoffner enjoyed a successful indoctrination to Yonkers Raceway on Wednesday night, November 28, winning his local debut with the pacing mare Fabulous Genie.

Shoffner escorted the 7-year-old daughter of Wethington to a two length, 1:57.4 win over DVC Uptown Girl (Bruce Aldrich, Jr.) in the $5,000 third race pace. It was also “Genie’s” first trip to the big city.

“I claimed her ($5,000 base) a couple of months ago at Indiana Downs,” Shoffner said. “I figured she was a better half-mile horse, so I took her to Freehold and she was good.

“She fit this condition and the money’s better here, so I came to Yonkers.”

Where horse and driver are perfect.

Shoffner, 43, is a native of LaPorte, Ind. This was his 80th career driving victory and fifth this season.
