Ft. Washington, MD — In one of the biggest overlays of the year, Drivin’ Miss Rudee ($9.00, $2.20, $2.10) was the best in the $9,000 Open Pace for fillies and mares at Rosecroft Raceway on Saturday, September 1, notching her eighth win on the season.

Carded as the 8-5 morning line choice, the 5-year-old Walton Hanover mare went off at 7-2 odds by post time. Driven by Donnie Russell from post position four, Drivin’ Miss Rudee immediately took the lead, pacing through well-rated fractions of :28, :57 and 1:24.4. The mare was strong in the stretch to hold on for the win in 1:53.4. John Sumner trains and co-owns the winner of over $175,000 lifetime with William Camp, Jr.

The 1-5 betting choice by post time, Flirtwithedealer ($2.10, $2.10), closed alertly for second in the last strides of the mile. Driven by Victor Kirby for trainer Trevor Stafford, the 5-year-old Cam’s Card Shark mare sat last through the opening half of the race. Kirby pulled Flirtwithedealer three-wide near the top of the stretch to make up several lengths.

Rounding out the $59.60 triple were Mymymylookatherfly ($3.60) and driver John Wagner at 13-1 odds. Wagner drove the 4-year-old Real Artist mare up the rail to hit the board. The trainee of Roger Hans now has a line of 2-9-4 across the board from 25 seasonal starts. Tom Cooke owns the talented mare.

Rosecroft will present live racing this coming Tuesday (September 4) at 5:35 p.m., and several stakes races are carded.
