Driving double for Campbell in PASS

Four divisions of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes action highlighted the Monday card at Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack, with 3-year-old filly pacers in the spotlight.

Sail Away ($12.20) won the fastest division of the afternoon, pacing the mile in 1:53.1. John Campbell pulled with the Real Artist filly at a half timed in :56 and challenged even-money favorite Western Graduate (Yannick Gingras) up the backstretch. The two raced as a team to three-quarters in 1:25, and Sail Away took a short lead at the head of the stretch. The Richard Bilach trainee then held off a passing lane move from Elusive Prey (George Brennan) to win by a neck. “When I asked her in the stretch, she dug in, and she was real game up to the wire,” said John Campbell of Sail Away.

Campbell also drove the Teresa Raymond-trained Village Mirage ($65.00) to victory in the second division, finding a seam along the inside to pass a tiring Ciela Hanover (Brian Sears) after being trapped on the backstretch. The Ontario-based daughter of Western Hanover turned in a 1:54.3 effort.

In the first division, Captiva Island ($3.00) cleared to the lead for driver Tim Tetrick just after the quarter and held off pressure from a first-over Caviart Cameron (Brian Sears). The Erv Miller trainee drew off late to win by 2-1/2 lengths, pacing the mile in 1:53.3. Fiery Buckeye ($9.80) took the third division in 1:53.2, drawing clear at the head of the stretch for Yannick Gingras before holding off a hard-closing Little Miss Dragon (John Campbell). Ron Burke trains the Dragon Again filly.

In the Open Handicap pace for fillies and mares, Dreams Are Great ($12.00) parlayed a pocket trip into a narrow victory, stopping the timer in 1:53.2. Eric Goodell tipped the 5-year-old daughter of Dream Away to the passing lane to overtake even-money favorite Badlands Iron Lady by a neck in the final strides. Joe Poliseno trains the career earner of over $300,000 for owners Joseph Jannuzzelli, Dana Steinberg, and Philip Steinberg.

Live racing at Harrah’s Chester continues through December 20, with post time every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 12:45 p.m. eastern time.
