SALEM, NH — A dozen top trotters will compete in two eliminations on Sunday at Rockingham Park to determine which will advance and compete in the $50,000 Joseph Carney Memorial Trot Final here next weekend.

The eliminations offer a purse of $17,500 each and both races will send a field of six postward on Sunday’s 11 race card. In the first elimination, which will go off as the third race, Scorpion Moon is the 5-2 early choice with Jonathan Roberts in the bike, and in the second, to be contested as the seventh race of the day, Slave Dream earned the 5-2 morning line favoritism by winning a $10,000 open trot at The Rock on August 17.

Scorpion Moon, trained by Tracy Brainard, will make his first appearance at Rockingham this meet after finishing a strong second in the Joe Ricci Memorial Trot on August 9 at Scarborough Downs. The 7-year-old gelding has won five of his last eight starts while being campaigned in Pennsylvania, Canada and Maine throughout the summer. Slave Dream has won six of his last eight races and the 3-year-old gelding will be partnered with leading driver Brewer Adams.

The Joseph Carney Memorial Trot is held each year in honor of Rockingham’s former president and owner.
