Ft. Washington, MD — Alvin Lineweaver’s Ethical Hanover started at the bottom and climbed up the class ladder, winning the featured $8,200 Winners Over event on Saturday, July 16 at Rosecroft.

Competing in the non-winners of $2,500 last month, the four-year-old Jenna’s Beach Boy stallion hit a winning streak and has refused to back down. Sporting a line of 8-5-1 across the board from 16 starts this year, Ethical Hanover continues to improve dramatically.

Earlier this month, the trainee of Alvin Lineweaver stepped up to the non-winners of $4,000 and swept the field by 11 lengths. Ethical Hanover paced the mile in 1:52.1, with a final quarter of :27.4, setting a new lifetime mark. The week prior to setting the mark, he won by ten and a half lengths in 1:53.

At 5-1 morning line odds, Ethical Hanover was overlooked in the Winners Over class due to the increase in competition. Dixie Pride, assigned post six at 8-5 morning line odds, paced in 1:50.4 for the win on July 2, setting a 2005 track record for the meet’s fastest mile. Also in the mix were DM Destiny, an Albert Albert gelding who holds a lifetime best of 1:51 and JJ’s Artiscape, who finished second in last week’s edition of the feature, pacing a final quarter of :27.3.

But Ethical Hanover was up for the challenge. Dropping in the pocket from post position two behind JJ’s Artiscape, regular driver Wayne Long held his ground for the perfect trip. Driver Sean Bier guided JJ’s Artiscape through decreasing fractions of :27.2, :56.3 and 1:24.1, and in the stretch Ethical Hanover snuck up the passing lane to outdo the leader for a win in 1:52.4. JJ’s Artiscape held on for second and Dixie Pride finished third.

Ethical Hanover returned a win price of $10.60 to his supporters at the windows. Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms Inc. of Pennsylvania, Ethical Hanover upped his lifetime earnings to over $35,000.
