Fake Denario N wins Dover feature

Dover, DE — Fake Denario N won the $32,500 pace, Clinton Longshot had just enough to take the $30,000 Delaware Special, while Sharky Osborne romped in the $24,000 Open Pace on a speed-filled Dr. Martin Luther King card, on Monday, Jan. 15, at Dover Downs.

Ron Pierce raced David Scharf’s Fake Denario N from off the pace, moving to the outside to follow Dream Rocket and Ross Wolfenden rounding the clubhouse turn. The Fake Left gelding then rolled three wide around the final turn to collar front-pacing Maximum Viking with Jim Morand in mid-stretch. Fake Denario N reached the finish line in 1:50.2 to give trainer Josh Green a triple. Dream Rocket got up to finish second in front of Maximum Viking.

Marjorie Richards’ mid-summer modest purchase Clinton Longshot paid another dividend in the $30,000 Delaware Special. The Dauntless Bunny 5-year-old, driven by Ross Wolfenden, found room in deep stretch and just got up in 1:51.4 to edge a fast finishing Make A Success, driven by David Miller, by a nose. Black Cat Bone, piloted by Ron Pierce, wove through the field from post eight to finish third. The win was the fourth of the meet with a second and two thirds for Clinton Longshot.

Razor sharp Sharky Osborne matched the fastest time of the night with a 1:50.2 victory in the $25,000 Open Pace. Tony Morgan chalked up his second win of the night as Sharky Osborne won for the third consecutive time for owners Gary Minner and Pete Richardson. Midnight Walk, steered by Ross Wolfenden, was runner-up. Beware Beret and Ron Pierce took third.

Four Starzzz Favor became the winningest horse of the meet when Ron Pierce guided the Matt’s Scooter gelding home in 1:51.3 for his sixth consecutive victory. Crystal Art (Jim Morand) took second money. Gryffindor (Tim Tetrick) finished third.

Three Point Acres’ Lotsa Guy was Tony Morgan’s third winner, scoring a 1:51.4 triumph in one of the $18,000 Winners Over paces. The win was the fourth in his last six outings for the Threefold gelding. Real Good Thing (Ross Wolfenden) came in second. SF Supreme (David Miller) was third.

Kellytuck Sophie and I’m All In meet in $24,000 Mares Open

Kellytuck Sophie, upset winner of last week’s $24,000 Filly and Mare Open Pace, and I’m All In, winner of the $20,000 Jr. Mares Open at a faster time, lead eight hard-hitters in the Tuesday, Jan. 16 Dover Downs feature race. First post is 4:30 p.m.

Youthful driver Jonathan Roberts shot Kellytuck Sophie along the passing lane to score a 21-1 victory in 1:53.1 to take the week’s top distaff event. M & W Stables, Graham Grace Stables, and trainer Bib Roberts own the Can’s Magic Trick 5-year-old.

She will take on Tom Vine and Crystal Ball Stables’ I’m All In, a 1:52.3 winner in the Mares Jr. Open last week. Yada Yada Yada A, driven by Ross Wolfenden for Bill Dittmar, Steve Iaquinta, Henry King and Ken Wood, was a neck away from victory last time in the feature. Poppy Lustre N, owned by Wendy Crissman and Wayne Pryor Estate and driven by meet leader Tim Tetrick, finished third after cutting out the pace.

Ain’t Goin Back, owned by Kathleen Stafford and Rick MacLeish, finished second in the Jr. Open and will have the services of Ben Stafford, Jr., leaving from the rail. Shake Away, leased by JoAnn King and JEB Enterprises, with Jim King driving, drew post two.

The other potent contestants are Chris and Phil Stefani’s Dream-A-While, with Art Stafford, Jr. Steve Warrington will drive fast finishing Dance Hall for Don Hawk, John Hynansky and trainer Dan Warrington.

A trio of fast females step up into the $20,000 Mares Jr. Open. North America’s all-time leading driver, Herve Filion, will drive Russ and Elaine MacKinnon’s Fantasy Winner, a winner of two of her last three. Valkyrie Hanover and Art Stafford, Jr. leave from post one for Andrew and Ben Stafford, Jr., while Pacific Illusion, owned by Sharon White, Louie Paglierani and trainer Wayne Givens, will be driven by Ross Wolfenden from outside post seven.

The other starters are veterans in this class. Newman Racing Stable’s Binions with Jim Morand; Riddlemethat, owned by Nick Callahan with son, Corey Callahan, in the bike, who drew the rail; Firiel Hanover, owned by Atlanta Falcons linebacker Demorrio Williams and Teague Inc., who will have the services of Brad Hanners; and Karen and Brad Sawyer’s GE’s Jen and Eddie Davis, who complete the lineup.

Monday through Thursday post time at Dover is 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday racing starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday is a non-live racing day at the track. There is no charge for parking or admission. Reservations are suggested for the Winner’s Circle Restaurant. Call (302) 674-4600.
