Faraldo, Newell are winners in NAADA Trotting Series

Monticello, NY — For the second consecutive week attorney Joe Faraldo reined Winning Prince to victory in the NAADA Trotting Series, held on October 3 at Yonkers Raceway.

Not only was it two-in-a-row for Faraldo and Winning Prince, but that same combination has clicked for four consecutive victories over the past four weeks.

It’s always notable when Faraldo reaches the winner’s circle but his drive behind the veteran trotter at Yonkers this weekend was first rate.

After leaving from the pole position and as the field headed toward the quarter pole Winning Prince went off-stride and naturally Faraldo moved him to the outside. He quickly got the trotter back on gait and they were third on the outside at the quarter pole in :29.4.

From there Winning Prince never saw the pylons and raced on the limb head-and-head with Legendary Charmer, who was driven by Barry Farber. Both trotters were still heads apart as they headed for home but Winning Prince lived up to his name and trotted to the lead and finished 1-1/2 lengths in front of Legendary Charmer in a 2:02.1 clocking. Round About finished third for Bob Hechkoff.

Winning Prince, owned by Stephen Reid and Deborah Hoadley, notched his sixth victory of the year and raised his seasonal bankroll to nearly $21,000.

Georgie Newell gave Pembroke Hit a perfectly rated mile and with a strong stretch drive they kept Patsy B Happy and Dave Yarock at bay to score a head victory in a time of 2:01.4.

Newell used the front-end route and even though Yarock and his trotter shadowed Pembroke Hit the entire way Patsy B Happy couldn’t reel in Pembroke Hit through the long homestretch at the Hilltop oval and they had to settle for second money. Mike Strada drove Ebba’s Yankee home third best, some three lengths behind the top two finishers.

A joyous Newell scored his first driving victory in nine seasonal tries and it was Pembroke Hit’s third victory of the year. The trotter is owned by fellow amateur driver Alan Schwartz.

The next leg of the NAADA Trotting Series at Yonkers Raceway will be on Saturday, October 10.
