Favorites true to form in Maryland Race Fund

FT. WASHINGTON, MD – Both Xiaomei and Mellow Lane were favored in their $15,800 divisions of the Maryland Standardbred Race Fund for three-year-old trotting fillies at Rosecroft Raceway on Monday, and each kept their promise by earning a victory.

Xiaomei [$5.00, $2.40, $2.10], under the guidance of driver Corey Braden, left the gate from post three in the field of six to drop in along the rail. Braden tipped the Presto Hanover filly out at the half-mile marker and rallied home to win by two and a quarter lengths in 2:01.1. Xiaomei, owned and trained by Basil Sapienza, topped Reloaded [$2.40, $2.10] and John Wagner.

Reloaded, a daughter of CR Commando owned and trained by Syl King, Jr., cut the mile with quarters of 28.4, 1:00.3 and 1:30.2. The filly showed strong speed and held on with a 30.4 last quarter for Wagner.

Third under the wire was Mandas Mistyclover [$3.20] under the guidance of driver Cliff Green. The Dedicated Yankee filly sat in fifth through much of the mile and rallied home with a 30.0 closing fraction. Darryle Dennis trains her for owners Donnie and Nancy Drewer.

The trifecta, coming in 3-6-2, paid $25.00.

In the second division, Mellow Lane [$3.20, $2.60, $2.10] dominated for the Schadel connections. The Lindy Lane filly left hard off of the gate from post six to gain the lead and wired the field through fractions of 30.2, 1:01.2 and 1:31.2. Mellow Lane earned a win by one and a half lengths in 2:01.4.

Amber Alert [$6.00, $5.20] finished second off of a first-over journey with trainer Bill Long at her lines. The SJ’s Caviar filly closed well with a 29.3 last quarter for owner Dale Massey.

Whitesville Lee [$3.40] got the pocket trip for third. Driven by David Hill III, the daughter of Loge tracked Mellow Lane stride for stride but faded late in the stretch. Owned and trained by Gary White, Whitesville Lee was recently successful on the Delaware circuit, winning a race fund elimination in 2:03.3.

The 6-4-3 trifecta returned $87.40.

Post time for Tuesday’s 12-race card is 5:35 p.m. at Rosecroft Raceway.
