Final Goshen matinee card on Saturday

by John Manzi, for Goshen Historic Track

Monticello, NY — The third and final matinee racing program this season at the Cradle of the Trotter will be presented on Saturday, June 21, at Goshen Historic Track. Eight races are again on tap on what is being billed as Senior Health Day at Historic Track.

According to Goshen matinee presiding judge Gerry Fielding, who doubles as race secretary, only a handful of 2-year-olds entered this week.

“We had 30 or so enter during the first two programs but this week we only have five,” Fielding said. “Most of those who raced are now qualified and they’re looking to go for the money.”

Entertainment is again in store for the attending fans at Historic Track on June 21 and featured will be the a cappella doo-wop group Harmony Knights, who’ll entertain the crowd with their harmonious renditions of noted vocal group hit songs. The five-man ensemble will perform before the races get underway at 12:30 p.m. and then sing between every race.

Also on tap that afternoon is a hat contest. Prizes will be awarded for the best horse related, the most creative, and the most patriotic.

There will be many booths offering information on a variety of health related subjects. There will also be a blood drive.

After this program is completed the National Historic Landmark gears up for its 98th season of Grand Circuit racing which will get underway on Tuesday, July 2, and continue through Sunday, July 6.

Admission to the not-for-profit Historic Track is $5.00 with children under 12 admitted free. Post time for all race cards is 1:00 p.m.
