EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – March 17, 2004 – Four Starzzzz Hope won an accident marred $20,000 Jersey Girls, the seventh race on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands.

The spill at the halfway point of the mile race began when Azalea Hanover stumbled and unseated driver Daniel Dube. Both Yannick Gingras, with She’s All Sporty, and Alex Kavoleff, with Traker Dream, collided with the falling horse, and were unseated.

Kavoleff, 51, of Howell, New Jersey, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for x-rays of his right shoulder. Gingras and Dube were bruised but returned to drive in the ninth race.

She’s All Sporty, a four-year-old daughter of Sportsmaster with career earnings of $111,483, fractured her skull in the spill and died almost instantly. The other two mares had lacerations but were up and walking around.

She’s All Sporty, trained by Colleen Posner, was owned by Stuart Oppenheimer of Irvington, New York; Shawn Nessa of DuQuoin, Illinois; Bart Seales of Mason, Illinois and Arthur Oppenheimer of the Bronx, New York.

Stormies Girl, driven by Ron Pierce, was pulled up and did not finish the race.

Four Starzzzz Hope [$3.80, $2.80, $2.40] escaped the accident and scored a length and three-quarter victory over Zintillating [$8.60, $5.00]. Maple Lady [$3.00] was three and a half lengths back in third.

The mile was clocked in 1:54 on a surfaced rated good.

Four Starzzzz Hope, driven by Mike Lachance and trained by Dave Sabatelli, posted her fourth win with two seconds in seven starts this year for the FS Starzzzz Stables of Glenwood, New Jersey, and Alan Cohen of Weston, Massachusetts.

The $67,800 Jersey Girls Final is on March 24.
