Four Starzzz King battles back for Matt’s Scooter win

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – March 19, 2004 – Four Starzzz King [$3.80, $2.40, $2.10] repelled the challenge of Prince Vince [$3.00, $2.40] to win the second race, the first of three $16,000 round two divisions of the Matt’s Scooter Series on Friday night at the Meadowlands.

Four Starzzz King, driven by Mike Lachance and trained by Dave Sabatelli, scored a neck victory for his fourth win in six starts this year. Marchand [$2.20] was a length and a half back in third.

“He wasn’t as impressive as he was in his other start,” said Lachance, referring to the three-year-old colt’s victory in the first round of the Matt’s Scooter. “He was a little sluggish. He didn’t race bad. He fought back at the end. He was beat, and he came back.”

He paced the mile in 1:53 flat.

The son of The Panderosa, racing for the FS Starzzzz Stables Inc. of Glenwood, New Jersey, advances to the $110,800 Matt’s Scooter Final on March 26. He already captured the $95,000 Junior Trendsetter Final on February 21.

In the fifth race, the second Matt’s Scooter division, Hop Sing [$5.60, $3.80, $3.80], another offspring of The Panderosa, teamed witha Lachance to win in a matching time of 1:53.

Hop Sing finished one-length ahead of Kenny The Cowboy N [$4.60, $4.20] with Mr Matturday Night [$16.00] in third by two and a quarter lengths.

Hop Sing, trained by Noel Daley, races for Anthony and Carol Risi of Christiana, Pennsylvania and Bernard O’Brien of Los Angeles, California.

Daley harnessed the winner of the final division, Crazy For Ever [$7.20, $3.40, $2.80], who split horses and got up in the final strides for a half-length victory over Village Hero N [$4.00, $3.40]. Yankees In Seven [$3.20] was third by a length.

Ron Pierce guided Crazy For Ever to his fourth win in eight starts this year. The Life Sign colt paced the mile in 1:53.3. He is owned by Adam Victor & Son LLC of New York City; Gate To Wire Stable of Silver Lake, Ohio and RCE Stable of Princeton, New Jersey.

In the $50,000 Overbid, carded as the seventh race, Burning Point [$6.40, $4.60, $2.20] evaded a breaking Jennie Fanetta on the backstretch and coasted to a length and three-quarters victory in 1:52 flat.

Worldly Beauty [$5.20, $2.20] was second, and it was three lengths back to 3-5 Carolina Sunshine [$2.10]. Burning Point, driven by George Brennan and trained by Steve Elliott, is now two-for-two in the prelims and moves on to the $112,650 Overbid Final on March 26. The Camluck mare, the three-year-old divisional champion in 2003, now has $935,663 in career earnings for the Cuzzins Stable of Boca Raton, Florida.
