Freshman colts in Historic spotlight at The Meadowlands

East Rutherford, NJ — Blue Rock split horses in the stretch to take the first of two divisions of the $79,162 Historic – Goshen Cup for 2-year-old pacing colts on Thursday night (July 2) at the Meadowlands.

Blue Rock captured the fastest of the two Goshen Cup divisions with a time of 1:54.

Driver Jack Baggitt, Jr. and Blue Rock ($5.20, $3.40, $2.60) were first out of the gate but lost the lead to Gota Go Bullville just before the half. Blue Rock popped out of the pocket in the stretch and charged between Gota Go Bullville ($4.60, $3.40) and Highbeta Blue Chip ($4.60) to take the night’s fourth race by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.

Ronnie Burke trains and co-owns Blue Rock with Randy Ringer, Weaver Bruscemi and JJK Stables. The son of Rocknroll Hanover-Lady Indigo was a $47,000 yearling purchase at Lexington.

In the second division of the Goshen Cup, Mr Salvatore Fra ($5.00, $3.40, $2.40) and driver Ron Pierce sat a perfect second over trip and tore between horses down the stretch to take the sixth race of the night in 1:55.2. Joey The Czar ($8.00, $3.60) was a neck behind in second and Mcgreat ($3.80) finished third.

The winner, a son of Western Ideal-Yankee Scramble, was a $22,000 yearling purchase at the New Jersey Classic Sale by The Fra Stable and is trained by Steve Elliott.

Break The Bank K did just that as he scored at odds of 48-1 for driver Ron Pierce.

Flex The Muscle ($3.80, $2.10, $2.10), trained and driven by Ray Schnittker, took the first division of the $91,060 Historic – Harriman Cup for 2-year-old colt trotters in 1:59.1. Wishing Stone ($3.60, $3.00) was just a neck behind in second and Woody Marvel ($7.00) was third. The son of Muscles Yankee-Alix Hall was a $140,000 yearling purchase at Harrisburg by Ray Schnittker, Jerry Silva and Arden Homestead Stable.

A 48-1 longshot driven by Ron Pierce, Break The Bank K ($98.80, $21.00, $8.60), took the second Harriman Cup split with the fastest time of the three divisions in 1:57.4. Big Stick Lindy ($2.40, $2.10) was second and Classical ($2.80) was third. Break The Bank K is a homebred owned by Robert Key. Rich Gillock trains the son of Revenue S-American Misty.

In the third division of the Harriman Cup, Lucky Chucky ($25.40, $7.00, $3.20) and driver John Campbell got up in the final strides to take the third race of the night in 1:59.2. Classic Viking ($17.80, $10.60) was three-quarters of a length behind in second. The fraction setter, Ripken ($4.40), broke stride in the stretch and fell back to third. Lucky Chucky, a son of Windsong’s Legacy-Aerobics, was a $10,000 yearling purchase by Chuck Sylvester, Amy Stoltzfus and Neal Goldman.
